Motiv balls
« on: April 11, 2014, 08:45:26 AM »
Im not real loyal to any one brand but I dont like columbia and ebonite. The balls I use now are The Wrecker, Nightmare, Terror, Reax and Manic. My avg is 215, 16 mph, med revs, low track (but not that low) and a tweener. The Reax can make me look like cranker on the right pattern, the Wrecker..I love it but its speed sensitive. Anyway the question is..For a med oil house shot how is the primal rage? Is it outdated or discontinued? I never threw a Motiv ball and not many people in my area use them (Long Island) I do have better success with higher end balls then I do with mid range balls. The Wrecker (mid range) is one of my favorites but it has a lot of games and probably time for replacement.
Thanks.

The Primal Rage has a great cover in the Fusion Pearl.  It will have a very similar shape to the Wrecker, but should be a bit stronger.

If you are trying to get away from the skid/snap shape of the Wrecker, then perhaps the Sigma Sting is a good choice.  It has the same Fusion Pearl cover as the Primal Rage (different surface prep) and the lower Rg Sigma core.  The Sigma core is probably the best core Motiv has ever produced and the Fusion Pearl is perhaps the best cover Motiv has produced.  The Sigma Sting will give a strong reaction but will be more controllable at the breakpoint than the Primal Rage and be a better option for most on fresher conditions.

Once the shot breaks down, the Primal Rage would most likely be a better option.  But I think with the proper drilling, the Sigma Sting could get most through a typical 3 game league set.

I agree with the Sting recommendation. I have the Rage & Sting. Both are awesome nuggets. Sting is my benchmark ball & it doesn't matter if I go up the boards or move in. When it does start to labor a bit, the Rage comes in and provides stronger down lane motion without skipping a beat. The Sting IMO would be the ball to go with. I have used it oob & touched it with a 3k pad & the ball has been nothing but money the past month & a half I have had it.

Good luck & let us know what you go with & how it works out!!

The Sting is a good first Motiv ball.  If you normally see heavier amounts of oil, the Covert Revolt is very good.

Though I agree the Covert Revolt would be a great ball on heavy conditions, it does have some limitations.  I feel the Covert Revolt would have to be supplemented with either the Primal Rage or Thrash Frenzy (or even Tribal) because you can't quite make the same type of adjustments as you can with the Sting.

The Sting (for the normal league night) would give most bowlers more coverage.  If the shot is a little lighter, then perhaps the Venom Shock.

In comparison, is the Sting stronger then a Wrecker? And how do the Motiv balls take to surface changes?

The newer covers have taken cover changes quite well.  Some of the older covers I had trouble with though.  One suggestion I would make is to not use the Motiv gel polish.  I feel there are better options on the market.  The "scuff" I do like.
