Suggestions for my league condition
« on: September 24, 2014, 10:23:26 PM »
I currently throw a Sinister and Radical Yeti(original). I am looking for something to replace the yeti and something for when the House neglects to put oil down for our smaller size league(its either swimming in the ocean or crawling through the sahara). Even though I have the sinister, I LOVE the skid/flip balls.

I can't give exact numbers because I have been bowling with just the yeti for a few months. I have learned to go from 15-20mph and change my axis tilt as needed for shots with that single ball. This has made my release too inconsistent to get a good pap. I am usually between 250-350 revs.

I have been told that the UpRoar would a good ball bellow the yeti, but does motiv have a better answer for me?

Based on what you have stated, the best options from Motiv would be either the Tribal or the Ascent Apex.  However, I don't know if I would consider those skid/flip.  The Tribal is a bit stronger than the Ascent Apex but might be too much when the lanes are truly dry.  The Ascent Apex is better for those conditions based on your stats.  However, for the heavier handed or slower bowler, the original Ascent would be better for desert conditions.  It has an older and weaker cover.

For replacing the Yeti, I would figure the Octane would be the best option with the Primal Rage being a little stronger, though not as skid/flip as you say.  The cover on the Octane is quicker reacting.  (as long as you are looking for skid/flip)

I forgot to mention I am a stroker, but with everyone else in the league(besides 2) throwing between 15-2 if they don't put down oil down Then It doesn't matter how I throw it. I have been trying to learn how to throw it in the oil by increasing tilt and revs, but I don't have anything that will recover(the sinister will but I don't get much carry due to my "inexperienced" angles I force it into.

I was also worried that the apex would be just as strong as the the tribal and I would still want room below it going sinister-octane-apex/tribal- then ?

I like the octane idea and I think it would help me break away from the shot everyone else is using.

For a league arsenal, the Tribal and Apex are probably similar enough to not warrant both.  However, the original Ascent is a decent step below the Tribal.

If you are a stroker, then I am not sure if you would need much below the Apex if it was your ball below the Octane.  If you wanted to cover more conditions, then a Sinister - Octane - Tribal - original Ascent will cover 99% of what you should see.

I think I was more concerned for the amount of difference between the tribal and octane.
It has only been recently that I discovered cover changes(scotchbrite pads / polish)and it has helped quite a bit, but my league THS is just too unpredictable.

I'm pretty pumped for the line-up you suggested, but could anyone recommend some general layouts? (No DA or Exacts....no driller near me gives enough crap to do anything other than manufacturer sheets)

And a side note. What is a good, very lite polish that I can use on my sinister that will keep me a little more versatile(stretch out its use 5-10 frames more)? I'm thinking a cleaner that will add a little shine?

The Sinister comes at 4000 grit.  Not sure how they apply that 4000 grit, but if it is like Storm, then perhaps it is on top of 1000 grit.

You could start back at 1000 and work your way up using 2000 then 4000.  When I follow this method, I get a shinier looking ball than what Storm or Roto Grip get when they say 4000.

I personally use polish as a last resort.  I have a harder time reproducing polished results as opposed to abralon results.

What would be a good layout for the octane.... Something that would give it enough length and control to be versatile

I would have a pin-to-pap length around the 4.5-5-inch range and adjust the cover to get the length you are looking for.
