Hello guys, this time I had the opportunity to try the new Motiv release, the Primal Fear.
When the original Primal Rage was released back in 2013, it helped Motiv to gain a lot of customers. The ball impressed a lot of people and it brought Motiv its first PBA National title.
Now Motiv presented its new release, the Primal Fear. I had the chance to try this ball and all I can say is WOW!
I am a low rev rate, speed dominant bowler, so for me, angular pieces usually hit late or they don't turn the way I wanted, but this ball has been a pleasent surprise for me.
I tried the ball while making the review and in one league last week, and the ball is definitely angular. I usually start with my Forza or my Forza GT and both are great on fresh oil, but for me the problem begins when I need to move inside and open up the lane, I start losing some carry because of my low rev rate, so I tend to leave those corner pins that I am sure everybody loves ;D
Well, with the Primal Fear, now I can move inside, swing the ball left and watch it come back with a vengeance. This ball has a strong backend motion, something that I have never seen before on any previous Motiv release, not even on the famous #redball.
The ball is clean through the fronts, has great length, and then it just picks up when it exits the pattern and provides a strong angular motion down the lane. When I missed left the ball offered a lot, and I mean a LOT of recovery. You can see on the last shot of the video review how close I played to the gutter at the breakpoint and the ball came back strong! Another thing that really impressed me is that even with its angularity, this ball is predictable and controllable, every time I made a good shot, I knew exactly what the ball was going to do. Really impressive.
I compared the ball with the Trident, the Revolt Havoc and the Forza GT.
For me the Trident reads the lane earlier, I feel that it hooks more than the Fear and while it offers a strong backend motion, it is not as angular as the Fear.
The Havoc for me is the perfect complement to the Primal Fear. The Havoc is earlier, smoother, both have similar hook potential, but the Havoc has a slower response to friction and it is more even down the lane.
The GT is earlier than the Fear and a little bit cleaner than the Havoc. It is smoother than the Fear and overall I feel it has less hook potential than the Primal Fear.
I think this ball will be a good fit for a lot of bowlers, it offers a motion that the league bowler loves, the "hockey stick shape" or how Motiv calls it "Late hook motion".
I usually try to stay objective when I do a review, but this ball really impressed me!
This ball will be released on October 31st. If you are looking for an angular ball or a piece of equipment to open up the lane, this ball will definitely fit the bill!
Please let me know what you think! I added a couple of things to the video that I think will make the reviews better and more informative... Still learning and I have a long way to go, but I hope you enjoy this video!
