Title: My next 2 or 3 Motiv balls
Post by: tommyboy74 on February 05, 2015, 10:48:15 PM
So I'm going to be getting a bonus soon and thinking of picking up 2 or 3 more Motiv balls to replace some older Storm/Roto stuff in the arsenal.  The Revolt and Sigma Sting have been very impressive so far and definitely want to build around that.

Before anything, here are the stats:
Rev rate:  380-410, Speed 19-22mph, PAP 4-1/4" straight across, low track.  Definitely a tweener where I can move in and hook it but the A game is playing straighter and outside.

My plan right now is to focus on the lower end of the arsenal as my upper end is still good for the time being.  First, I am definitely planning to pick up the Venom Shock, which will be a versatile ball that I can put underneath the Sting.  Then, I was debating between the new Venom Panic and the Tribal Fire.

One other option would potentially to go with a Forza and Sting, and then go with the Shock/Panic or Fire.

What do you all think?

I have the Jackal and the Sigma Sting, with an older ball that fits between them (like Covert Revolt) .

I also like to play straighter or slight swing...say board10-12 at the arrows out to 7-9 at the breakpoint.

I have a higher rotation angle and medium tilt, so the pin up Sigma Sting gets plenty of length and a very strong backend - so for me, I will likely stay on the smooth arc side of the Motiv Ball Guide ... http://www.motivbowling.com/resources/ball-guide.html  Venom Shock is high on my list for next ball.

If I were you, I would wait to see what the reviews are on the new Venom Panic - it may be exactly what you are looking for.  I am curious to see how it compares to the Venom Shock.  If the Panic falls under the Octane it is too skid snap for me and I will still look at getting the Shock.

I have heard many people say that the Tribal Fire is stronger than it's slot in the Ball Guide - I wonder if it could move up into the spot vacated by the Sigma Sting with the Panic going into the Fire's old spot?  Not sure.

If you really need a light oil ball - most seem to prefer the Ascent Apex.

Just my 2 cents...hope it helps.

I wasn't crazy of tribal fire. To me it was way to fast to friction but not strong enough to handle oil. The shock is a must!  I'm waiting for the panic!  The apex is decent but I had to try multiple surfaces to find what fit

I prefer the Forza over the Revolt personally. It's a very even reacting ball that fits perfectly above the Sigma Sting for me. I also love the original silver Tribal. I have the Tribal Fire and it's OK, but not something I will buy again.

Everyone needs to have the Venom Shock in their bag. When the lanes get that over/under hell going, the Venom Shock is a great ball to have.

I really like my Venom Shock on flatter patterns. However for me on house shots it's just not a match for me so far. I throw it similar to your numbers a hair slower on the speed and maybe a touch less rev rate. I really loved my Sigma Sting on THS but it's kinda died off after close to 100 games still decent but not as great as it was. The Venom Shock for me is actually an over under nightmare on house so far. I've been trying to tweak the cover to find something but no success yet......but it is great on flatter patterns for me.
