Hey all
I know the Octane was more miss than hit, but I just pulled the trigger on one as I received an email from bowling.com for some Black Friday specials and they had the Octane on closeout for $74.99 shipped. Yes, you have to add that $5.99 handling fee they charge, but they also allow you to take $5 back off with the INSTANT5 rebate. so out the door for a tisk under $76 shipped to my door. I checked out other online shops and the cheapest I can find the Octane is $100 on ebay from GLC plus shipping. Everyone else is still over $100 for the ball.
Just an FYI in case any was interested.

Yea, but not in 15# weights
-
Ahh didn't see that as I don't throw 15#.
-
I bought one as well, forgot the $5 rebate, but still pretty darn cheap.
Now, how to drill this puppy.... Might experiment with the MOtion Hole
-
Be advised the original Octane was very skid/flip and required a defined dry spot to get consistent reaction. Drilling the ball to enhance that characteristic may make it even more condition specific.

I agree. You may want to reconsider or at least be prepared to change the surface.

my driller kicked out the cg towards my pap and I get a hook/stop reaction
-
If the ball is as skid snap as everyone says it is, drilling it to make the ball try to use energy early is the best way to bleed some of that skid snap off of the backend. Dull it up, early rolling drill, and you take the excessive skid snap out.
I have mine but have not drilled it. Waiting to see what to do with it.

Here is a very nice video showing the difference in pin down and pin up.The pin down looks good the pin up really gets some flip. Not sure I would like that much flip.I ordered one too the price was hard to beat. Will be my first Motiv ball.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKPnfEEPPis

I talked to my PSO about mine not having the continuation I was expecting, He thinks the ball is burning up on me and went 4k and a high polish. this is on a fresh THS and now looks like a wet marble. OOB it looked closer to 5000 no polish so I hope he's correct. IF this thing is a skid/snap monster I ain't seen it yet.

Yes.. Mine is motion holed and the ball will come back and continue like crazy. Took to 1000 and polish like recommended on here and the ball is pretty great. Way better than the box finish. The ball still doesn't like oil much and will tend to skid a lot if you get too fast. It loves friction though.

Funny, mine at 4K and FF polish is burning up and has nothing for the backend. I'm not seeing what everyone else is with this ball. I must have drilled it to strong

It's hard to believe that a medium symmetric oil ball at 4K plus polish is burning up.

Sixpack. What layout do you have? Also what is your rotation and tilt at release? And you are taking about the original octane, correct?
-
yes original Octane
layout is 41/2x31/2
speed 17 mph
tilt 10*
rotation 45-70
revs on the high side don't know exact rpm
not a bad ball but nothing special for me. OOB plays like a med-heavy ball for me. I get the skid/snap reaction 4k and high polish but not for long in the set. starts deflecting in the pocket and leaving 10 pins. can't play deep either inside lines, poor recovery with it.
I put too strong of a layout on this one for sure, figured the cover was weaker.
playing on HPL's,probably better on anvil's. I put it away and maybe find a solution for it some day or maybe trade bait.

Agreed and didn't figure it out,my PSO did. hard for me to tell what med oil really is when most are chucking Crux's and Masterminds's and I'm rolling my tag for the most part.

I passed on the Mo hole drill, went with 55 x 3.5 x 25 - I may need to throw some Snake Oil on it
