Favorite 2 ball combo from Motiv
« on: March 13, 2017, 02:26:42 PM »
Alright, i have never thrown Motiv, but heard great things about them.  What would your favorite 2 ball combo be from them.  I want one to start out with and use on fresh to somewhat heavier, but never see super heavy oil.  I do throw about 17-18mph with higher revs, and then one ball to ball down to or use on house shots that will carry when stronger stuff starts pinging 10 pins.

Thanks,

Even though I love the Venom Shock, for your situation, I would consider a Chronic Paranoia as your fresh ball and then ball down to a Venom Cobra from there.  The Chronic is a tad stronger than the Shock and gets through the heads better.  The Shock can be quite early rolling.

The Cobra is a great all around THS ball for most bowlers.  Weaker than the Chronic and gets through the heads much better.  If you like to ball down, then that is what I would suggest.

If you like to ball up when the heads go (like me), then perhaps a Shock followed by Primal Fear or United Revolt.

In the end, everyone is different.  Your idea of heavy could be different than most.  I would still suggest you get with your PSO and let them assist in finalizing any decision.

I would got to the Ghost or the Trident.  And then go to the Chronic or the  GT.  Then I might go to the Burn or the Freestyle.  They all have different shapes depending what you like.    These are from the current line up.

Opps you were asking for a 2 ball selection.  For 2 balls I would go to the Ghost for heavy oil.  And then then the Chronic to ball down a bit.  For me the Chronic is a really good benchmark ball.

Come on guys, the OP doesn't see heavy oil.  He also has higher revs and medium-high speed.  Depending on tilt and rotation, I can't see much use of a Ghost, and, to imagine the Chronic as the weakest ball is dangerous.

Go to your pro shop.  Ask them what they would suggest and why.  If he/she doesn't know the Motiv lineup, ask what of their house brand do they suggest and someone can make a Motiv comparison for you.

I would just hate to see someone get a Ghost or Trident (very good balls) and you be able to use it for less than one game.  I would much rather get something that keeps me in play the longest before switching to something weaker.  How about this, get the Chronic first (great benchmark ball), use it for a couple weeks, then decide what you need after that.  If the Chronic isn't enough, then go stronger.  If it is too much or starts to lose carry at the end of the night, then go weaker.

There are a lot of factors that go into selecting a ball and most of them no one on the internet can decide for you.

spmcgivern, As I said the Chronic is a good bench mark piece.  As your suggestion it is a great way to start and then it can be determined which way you need to go.

Any ball from the Revolt series. All very good. Venom Shock is an excellent benchmark ball too.
