Recommended Arsenal

Hello everyone! I'm a new member to the forums, I have been lurking reading different manufacturers boards over the past year keeping an eye on their equipment as well as the general persona of that brands followers. Here I am, making a post to the Motiv boards. This post may seem a little long, but I want to try and give you as much info as I can, so you have less questions for me later. I did read the other recent arsenal questions, but there has been a new ball release since those were posted in, that I think would be a contender for my arsenal.

I've been really impressed with the equipment I've seen in person. I only know a couple people that have Motiv equipment, but I just found out there's a smaller pro shop nearby that has a Motiv Regional member. I'll definitely be going to talk to him soon, but first I wanted to question everyone here.

I am switching from 16lb equipment to 15lb. I have a 4-ball roller and so far only one of those balls is 15lbs. Here is my current arsenal:
Columbia 300 Delirium (OOB Finish - 15lb)
Hammer Black Widow Assassin (2000grit sanded)
Columbia 300 Pirahna/C Pearl (used to be weaker ball and spare ball before i got the Taboo spare)
Hammer Taboo Spare

I know you're probably thinking "Broseph, you got all EBI International stuff, why not stay with them?" I'm looking to switch it up and I like to have most/all of my equipment from the same company. I loved my original Black Widow, but haven't been amazed by anything from these companies since. I do like, not love, my Delirium, I am still learning it's motions on the couple houses I bowl in.

I only bowl in a league once a week currently, as I am trying to get back into the sport. I do bowl usually once another night of the week though. In terms of how I bowl. I would probably say a tweener/power tweener. Speed is usually around 16.5-17mph at the sensor on the lanes. If I had to guess RPM, around 350, give or take 50. I typically bowl at one house for league, which seems to be medium to slightly medium heavy THS. Another house I will probably switch to after this current summer league is more of a medium THS.

I usually struggle on drier conditions and since I don't do a sport shot league, I think I want my focus to be on the lower end of my bag. Right now my Delirium is my strongest piece and I usually have to put it away come third game depending on who else is on my pair. I don't throw my Assassin too much anymore, I need to rejuvenate it, but when it was factory finish, it seemed to operate similar to my Delirium. My Pirahna/C is an older ball, I traded a friend 2 of my older balls for this ball because we didn't use what we were trading and it's been my 'old faithful' ball since. It's my drier lane condition ball or when my line gets eaten up on my Delirium/Assassin, I'll switch to it. I've never had to use my spare ball as a strike ball during league, only when open bowling.

With all that information stated, I want to your recommendations for an arsenal. I will keep my Delirium as my strongest piece for a while, that would probably be the last ball I would like to replace. The bottom 3 slots are open. Any particular recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Vengeance - MH
Forza- Med.
Shock - Med/light
Tag - light

I think 3 of those 4 would cover you....mind that most of them can be tweaked coverstock wise a bit and I think Motiv probably underestimates ball strength a bit.

Saw guys throwing a TAG on MH conditions with more surface.
RIP Sawbones and ThongPrincess

Covert Revolt
Covert Vengeance
Primal Rage

Forza Redline

Tag
Rebel Tank

If you are expecting to have a spare ball, then you are really left with just two balls for your arsenal.  A lot of people will suggest the Forza and the Venom Shock.  You really can't go wrong with those two balls.

My suggestion is to purchase just one ball for now and go from there.  It is real hard to know exactly how someone will match up when changing brands as you are planning.  You can research all you want, but ultimately it is your success on the conditions you face that will be the deciding factor, not what some yahoo in BFE has had success with.

I would probably lean to the Venom Shock as that ball.  You plan on bowling in a different house after the summer that will have less volume.  Plus, you seem to be a tad on the rev-dominant side so suggesting something like a Forza as a first ball seems extreme.  You might be able to go up to the Forza, but for a first ball, I would suggest the Venom Shock.

After getting acclimated with the VS, then you can go up or down from there.  Move up to a Forza or Primal Rage depending on the type of shape you are looking for (even the Vengeance) or move down to a Tag or Ascent regular or Apex.  You can always have something like the Rebel Tank as a dual purpose spare ball/extreme dry ball.

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for the quick replies. I've read from a few people that Motiv seems to have their hook ratings a little low. The Venom Shock is definitely on the list of potential arsenal. I've heard it's a pretty versatile ball. I like the idea of that being in the middle and being able to go up and down. I was thinking the Tag might be a potential good starting point too, obviously a different shape though.

I should of mentioned that I can flatten out my shot and throw the ball straight if needed. I usually have a more consistent release if I throw the ball with some rotation on it. Still working on the consistency of the straight ball. I thought about the Rebel Tank as a spare/dry ball. I remember Ronnie Russel using the original Tank as a spare ball. So that is definitely a possibility. I have had good results with the Taboo spare.

Again, thanks for the suggestions. Keep 'em coming!

Theres just so many options. I would just choose one ball and choose one ball that can handle heavier oils and then choose one ball before your of choice for lighter oil or weaker ball.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone! Ended up going to a shop recommended by several people. The gentlemen there was great. Got me setup with a pair of lanes and wanted to watch me bowl a few frames before making any serious recommendations. Ended up getting the Venom Shock. Which should be a small step down from my Delirium, but much smoother in regards to hook shape. I bowled a couple games on a couple of interesting lanes. A couple kids parties had been on them for a good chunk of the day. Couldn't find a consistent line with the Delirium, but the Venom Shock just soldiered through the oil-field and gave me a consistent reaction. So far so good, but i'll update you when I actually bowl on the lanes for my league.

Hello kram1337 and welcome to the boards :) I'm glad you got the Venom Shock, its a great ball. Also, when your ready, try the Covert Vengeance, another winner IMHO. I have the Tank and when the lanes are dry this ball carries the world, another great Motive ball...
Now throwing pretty much all flavors...
