Which Motiv ball better compares to....
« on: January 08, 2015, 08:46:36 AM »
The Radical Grease Monkey?  My son throws Motiv and I throw Radical. He has both a Tribal and an Octane and I was wondering which of the two would be most analogous to my Grease Monkey. Why? Because I'm allowing myself to be sucked into debating with a 13 year old.

Probably the Ascent Apex, though I bet the Grease Monkey may be a little stronger overall.  The weaker Torrid balls would be close to the original Ascent Pearl.

The Venom Shock, Tribal Fire and Tribal are a significant step up in strength compared to the Ascent Apex so I don't think those would be a great comparison.

The Tribal would be more comparable imo.

I've owned all 3 of them btw.

I have thrown both during separate demos only and the Venom Shock may be close, but slightly stronger.

BTM has them ranked as follows:

Motiv Venom Shock - Hook=50, Length=14, Backend=17, Torque=6
Radical Grease Monkey - Hook=49 , Length=15 , Backend=16.5 , Torque=7

Both balls are smooth and even, the Venom Shock may a touch earlier and stronger, but probabally could be brought closer together with surface - a little more surface on the Grease Monkey than the box finish?

MOTIV Revolt Vengeance......45 x 4.0 x 50 p3

Torque (rated from 1 to 10):  This refers to the smoothness or flippiness of the ball from the breakpoint to the pins. A high torque ball will flip the most; a low torque ball will have the most even break. Players who generate more torque through their release generally like balls with less torque. Bowlers who are “roll” bowlers generally have more success with higher torque balls. Remember, this category does not measure the amount of hook, only the shape of it.
