What's Next for Motiv?
« on: May 07, 2011, 12:54:19 AM »
The Cruel LE is a great ball that I have added to my arsenal.  Does anyone know what ball Motiv will release next?

You will not see me on the PBA Tour, but I love the game!!!

I don't know specifics yet, but there will be a ball for Bowl Expo.

...Maybe something that could be a great benchmark ball, maybe a hybrid cover...? It's MOTIV so you know it will look good no matter what....after a MOTIV ball goes through the pins, there is nothing but BACKDRAFT on the deck.......:)

Review of the Backdraft is in the June issue of BTM. They review it as a medium oil ball of moderate length (13) good backend (15) , control (Torque = 6.0) but not a small amount of hook (49)
Hope they are right about the control part. They also reviewed the Red QZ-2 to have a Torque of 6.0 but it was a 7.0 for me.

Sounds like a more exciting development than the variations of different grits under polish for all the other QZ2s. Kind of surprised that more has not been made of its arrival.

Sorry. So many of them I lost track.
The Backdraft is worthy of a separate name, IMHO, since all the others vary only by the grit level under the polish.

yes charlest, very true, but i have had a qz1 red and have 2 qz2s, same grit they are totally different to me even with the same layout. i found the qz2 to be more angular than the red. never had a purple tho. just bustin' your chops buddy lol

I had a red QZ-1. I drilled it with a stacked pin & CG mostly because both BTM and BJI reviewed it as an even reacting ball. Mine flipped uncontrollably no matter what surface I tried. Dull it was just too early.
BUT I love my Orange Recon. It came polished and it has a strong backend (for me) and the light oil I see regularly.

The Backdraft appeals to me, but since I"m not bowling this summer, I might have to wait til fall to try one.

im jus afraid the backdraft is going to be too close to the other balls in the qz lineup....im going to have to pass.

I'm hoping for a pearlized ball to replace the SR2, maybe a Recon RX2 for higher oil volume.

my personal opionion, this is a polished hybrid, best of both worlds, skid of the pearl, control of the solid.  There is a reason some of the best balls on the market currently and in the past have been pearl/solid hybrids.  I personally will be punching one of these up and if it compliments the sr2 anywhere close to where I think it will this will be a great 1-2 combo, throw a recon in and someday a motiv plastic ball and you have the start of a spectacular ths arsenal

Here's my take on the QZ1 vs. the QZ2. The QZ1's will be discontinued shortly. So, then here is my following thoughts.....

QZ2 red = QZ1P
QZ2 blue = QZ1R

Just my thoughts...

Just from what I have seen of the QZ2 Backdraft already it looks to be more midlane, but with that same continuous arc that the QZ line up has been known for.

I can't comment on the QZ1 Red, but for me the QZ1 Purple and QZ2 were strong in the back, but it was an arcing motion. The difference came with the lengths through the first half of the lane.

The Backdraft is a welcome addition to the line up. It's already been said here that hybrid coverstocks have a proven success record. I think it holds true. The length of a pearl with the midlane and continuation of a solid.

Mine is drilled 35 x 4 x 30 with a P1 hole. Surface was lightly hit with a 2000 pad just to break the shine out of box.

I will be posting a video on youtube in the near future. Invest in a QZ2 Backdraft and set the house on fire!
