# RED BALL
« on: June 21, 2015, 05:33:33 PM »
Hey Folks,
Is anyone still throwing the # RED BALL? I am thinking about getting that or the original Revolt (solid). Also, please give me your thoughts on theses two balls.

And btw, when does Motiv ever come down in their prices???
Now throwing pretty much all flavors...

It's very rare to have Motiv come down in prices. I believe they are too small of a company. It's not like 900 Global who appear Storm has an 'interest'.

Their prices are in line with every other major manufacturer. And people want their equipment, so the market dictates the price. Depending on your stats, the revolt and Rage are a great 1-2 punch. You could also wait for the Remix to come out in less than a month and use that with the Rage. All you would need is a Tag or a Panic as a ball down.

Yes I do understand that but even the other ball manufactures come down after a while and both of these have been out for a while especially the Revolt.

Personally, I have not seen any manufacturer come down with their initial price until the ball is discontinued. Then, distributors stuck with such merchandise tend to discount them heavily.

I just picked up my new Primal Rage (#redball) on Saturday.  My first Motiv ball.  Threw a couple of practice games with it yesterday.  Pin-up layout.  Great reaction, carries very well.  Initially, a little disappointed in the durability of the coverstock.  In two games it already picked up 4 noticeable cuts in the cover.  Doesn't bode well for overall longevity.

I think once the Remix comes out next month, you will see Motiv phase out the #redball.

Cuts from the lanes/returns are problems with the durability of the coverstock? Please explain that concept to me.

Softer covers, more damage.  I have been bowling at the same center for 20+ years and have had equipment that gets little to no damage, and other equipment that gets tons of damage.  I fully understand that as bowling balls get used more they accumulate damage on them and I fully expect it to happen, but 4 cuts in 2 games is a bit much.  No one else I was bowling with yesterday on the same lane got any damage on their stuff.

Softer cover? So you are saying the Primal Rage doesn't conform to the USBC hardness requirements?

My motiv balls are very tacky and I do notice they seem to get damaged more than my hammers and my team members panic gets stuck in the ball return when nobody else is having that problem....really weird .

I would check the diameter of the Panic. Usually when one ball gets stuck in the ball return when the none of the others do, it's a different size.

I throw a lot of Motiv stuff and I haven't seen any more or less damage than with any other brand.

Not necessarily. There is still a minimum hardness of 72. I don't think too many manufacturers list ball hardness anymore, but maybe Motiv is on the low end of the scale while others average higher?

Yea, I know. That was just sarcasm on my part.  ;)

Bowling balls get damaged during use, I doubt one brand suffers more than any other. I have a Primal Rage that has seen heavy use for over a year and has one small cut in the cover. I also have three Sigma Stings and a Tribal that has had extensive use for almost as long and they have nothing more than the usual wear and tear we all get on bowling balls.

However, I do have a new Lane #1 Difference that on the fifth time down the lanes, it came back with a nasty gouge about 1 1/2 inches long, 3/4 inch wide and 1/8 inch deep. Being a brand new ball made it hurt that much more.   ;D

Bottom line boys, Motiv balls do not get more damage than any other balls. Stop saying ridiculous things! That your new Rage got some nicks on it right away is a statement about your bowling center more than the equipment you're throwing. I bowl at a center that balls very seldom get any marks other than the normal dullness in the track area from rolling down the lane. But I bowl once a year in a tournament in another city and after 3 games the ball looks like it's got 500 games on it.

The ball getting stuck in the ball return also is a ball return issue not a ball problem. If no other balls got stuck and the Panic got stuck once, it was a malfunction not a ball diameter issue. All ball companies have to measure the balls produced to make sure they meet USBC requirements.

Also, nasty gouges are never the balls fault. That is solely on a problem between the pinsetter and ball return.

I've been bowling for over 40 years and keep my equipment is excellent condition. The stuff I've had to do the most work on have been used at centers where the lane surface is worn and the ball returns and pinsetter area are not well maintained.
