Title: Short Oil Options
Post by: HighRevvin on April 14, 2019, 12:58:55 PM
Hello all,

looking for input on short oil (sport) plays not to be confused with broken down patterns and hooking heads. Planning on picking up a Thrill for the latter ever though I love playing inside.

The Shock looks promising but for those around me using them on THS they appear pretty aggressive overall but the pros seem to favor them on short. The Recoil shell looks ever more responsive to friction yet the core may offer some relief shifting the PSA way right. Not a chance I'll go urethane.

Thinking about trying an asymmetrical low flare drilling, 110x1.25"x60. Using the asymmetry to help maintain axis tilt to promote a longer hook phase. A pin down low flare shock also sounds nice.

Thanks for the input

For Motiv, if avoiding Urethane, I would go like 2” pin to Pap Ghost.

So the Ghost shell for a smoother reaction?

Never tried a low flare drilling of any kind. From what I've seen from the throw bots and Mo they can have a dramatic affect on ball reaction.

I've use urethane on broken down patterns, hooking heads, and wooden lanes. On the flip side I never got comfortable on fresh short sport patterns using it.

Pieces I've used over the years: OG Natural, Supernatural, Black Hammer, Black Widow Urethane (beast!!!)

I think the Motiv Hydra is also a very fine choice.

I was afraid the Hydra would be too close in reaction to the Venom Shock Pearl. My favorite to use on THS or least the volume of THS my league puts out.

Yes!!! Picked up the pearl a few weeks ago, amazing ball, have yet to try on sport. Drilled it 5" x 65 deg VAL. Beautiful hook phase for hooking heads, very continuous through friction all the way to the pocket. Best dry lanes ball ever!

i use it up the gutter one hand for house shots, but i'm converting to two hands and using my sport shot league(its free and unsanctioned for the navy) to start my conversion to two hands for the summer.  and holy wow its been nice for me.  and pretty versatile.  all of our sport shots have an OOB outside of 5 when i bowl just one handed.  well, i can actually play up the ditch in the "OOB" two hands, or i can get inside of 5, get deeper with my feet, and have a nice swing to it.

for two hands, i'm pretty sure i can build a 3 ball arsenal out of After Darks, i can drill a solid and knock the shine off it and have it drilled pin right of ring(same as my current ADP), then i can get another ADP and drill it pin way up for two hands and have it go super long.
