I'm looking for a ball/layout combination for drier lanes with over/under. Any ideas? Mind you I have an octane that forces me pretty deep and please don't mention a shock as mine is 8-10 boards stronger than my octane with the same pin up layout. Holy cow is that a lot of bowling ball.

Ascent or Tank?

Ascent or Tank?
I'd like to get my hands on an ascent solid if I can find one.

Ascent. I picked one up for my brother on eBay NIB for cheap. He pi a motion hole layout on it. Very clean through the front after the lanes break down with predictable continuos move on the back.

Apex is very smooth

Apex is very smooth
Bizarrely so even for the rev dominant such as I. I had to put a P4 hole in it to get a decent reaction. Still wasn't crazy about it; thus, it's up for sale.

I had an Apex for awhile too and for me it was more of a medium oil ball. I've talked to some of the Motiv staffers and they've had more success with the Ascent pearls when needing something smoother on short patterns

I agree with Charlest. I changed to 500/1500 and light coat of ufo and now I get some push and a smooth recovery. It was reading early for me ob and when I added polish to ob it still didn't get the length I had hoped for. I changed to this last week and now the ball firs where I wanted it. I tried about 4-5 combinations and was going to sell it until I tried this one. It's weird smooth but now that I get more length it fits better. I have it under my blackout

I think the problem with this ball was too strong a coverstock for far too mild a core - bad match-up. Might have been good for speed dominant players but for matched or rev dominant, not the best ball choice.
Somebody, please buy my Apex!!!

I have an Ascent Solid.....its good where the backends are strong. In my heavy wet dry house that gets carrydown down lane it struggles.

An old-fashioned urethane ball is a good choice.

Thank you charlest, I wanted the ball but I use 14 lb. Thanks anyways! :)

Charlest doesn't a agree but my shout from 2012, remade in 2014 is always my favorite choice. Of course a Lil bit of speed helps, but for me cg in the palm, pin up, usually allows me to play the burnt track area....its got enough cover and core to go super deep as well which if carry dictates...I migrate left! Extra Polish makes mine go super long too!

I'd seriously look at the DV8 Hooligan

:) No, Bill, I don't disagree at all that yours works for you and you know I'm glad it does.
I thought it should work for me also, but I drilled 2 separate ones, 2 years apart, and tried several surfaces on each. I just couldn't get this ball to work for me. I know it's a good ball: far too many people have had success with it, just not I. >:(

I call it my 60 dollar holler! Then I go back to back to back 240s in the second block :)
