Title: The Jackal
Post by: Big Jake on December 27, 2014, 01:21:27 AM
For those who have thrown "The Jackal" what is your opinion of it?

Those numbers are unreal, RG 2.46, Diff .060

I'm glad you asked this, because the Jackal is definitely something I'm looking to add in 2015.

For me it is very strong - a little too strong for my THS league shot right now.  I got it mainly to have something to go to when I run into heavier oil at tournaments or if my THS is more oily.  But I am a little on the slow ball speed side (14-15MPH off the hand) and about matched in revs (~250).  For someone more speed dominant, and/or more oil, it should be great.

While it is super strong, the cover does keep it from going into an early roll and rolling out - like a dull Hyper Cell for instance - so it will be more versatile.

Thanks todvan, do you keep it at OOB if so maybe you can apply some polish on it so it can get down a little farther before making its move. Thanks again!

I changed the surface on my Jackal in an effort to use more than just the first 1-1/2 games as the oob dictated on my league condition.
I tried polishing oob and found for me it got greater length but was too twitty at the break point.
Then, I hit on the combo for me. I sanded the ball with a used 500 abralon pad and polished it. Ball will play in the oil or punch out to the dry and give me a more predictable break point. Heavy roll & carry was great. I can now use all three games if I wish making easy moves as the shot migrates inside.

Ball drilled pin in ring finger mass bias 2" right of thumb.

My specs  5 -3/8", 3/8 up = axis point , 14- 15 mph, tweener

"like my Jackal - love my Covert"

I threw one at a demo day at the Orleans in Las Vegas.  It was by far the strongest ball that I threw all day.  I threw all of the other companies strongest offerings and it wasn't even close.  All balls were drilled the same and there didn't seem to be any uneven advantages for any company.  I actually did not buy one because I am only a league bowler and I never see enough oil for this ball.  Hope this helps.

I have kept my Jackal at box finish.  Due to having a lower rev rate, I am able to use my Jackal on most THS patterns.  The Jackal does not lose hitting power.
