United Revolt...what happened?
« on: January 23, 2018, 09:33:20 PM »
So it seemed like the reception from the majority that owned the ball were less than stellar. What happened? Why?

If you're looking for a skid snap type look out of their pearls, ala Storm, you're gonna have a bad time. Even the Fear wasn't well received. Replacement for the Rage my eye.

Excellent post. I don't know who does the initial testing for Motiv, but they seem clueless sometimes about the actual reactions of their product line. The Primal Fear is an excellent example. It has a slot in an arsenal, but it is in no way a skid/flip monster like they try to sell it as. The original "Red Ball" was to some extent, but not the Fear.

The only ball I've seen from Motiv that comes close to the "left turn Clyde"(does that date me? :-) ) balls from Storm is the original Paranoia.

Although every new release has the same tired ass staffers claiming it's Motiv's "bestest ever" ball. Of course, the claim is it rolls early, reads the midlane perfectly, makes an impossible left turn at the end of the pattern and has the most amazing continuation though the pin deck ever witnessed by mankind.

Sorry Motiv staffers, but with the exception of MotivMags and JustinWi(not sure what happened to him), I pretty much know the reviews are bullshit as soon as it's posted.

I think they try to make a well rounded line up, and if you compare a Quest to an original Trident, it is probably sharper, but if you're looking for a left turn Clyde out of Motiv, you're going to look at any skid snap ball from Storm and be like "They do it better!!"

Newsflash, Storm OWNS that reaction and has for years. No one does go long snap hard like Storm. That's the truth. If you go to one company expecting to be like another company, you're gonna be disappointed.

When the Dreams came out, I was very disappointed. The ball motion was something that 900 Global didn't have, and I'm sure lots of Storm fans were turned onto Global because of the motion, but I don't throw 900 Global to get a classic Storm reaction. If I wanted that, I'd drill a Storm ball.

My point exactly. The typical Storm reaction is pretty to watch, but it doesn't increase my scores. I have more success with something predictable.

I think too many people see Storm's "skid/snap" type reaction and assume it is the definition that all other companies should adhere to.  It is unfortunate manufacturers all use the same terminology since the consumer is a bit ignorant to what the goal of manufacturer's releases are supposed to be.

Motiv has a well rounded arsenal and in their silo of equipment, their versions of "skid/snap" fit.  I don't know if they are trying to replicate Storm's reaction exactly.  I realize Storm's reaction sells, but Motiv won't stop releasing equipment if they don't achieve it.

I like Motiv equipment and am not a staffer.  And as Milo stated, Storm's reaction is pretty.  But give me my Venom Shock every day of the week.  Plus, too many bowlers THINK they need the Storm reaction when in reality they need something totally different.

Yup. I still can't believe that ball wasn't a hit with the masses.

I'm still unsure about my United Revolt. It definitely doesn't match up to the house where I usually bowl which tends to have tighter backends. The United Revolt would be a beast at that house if the lanes were 65 feet long, but alas they ain't, hence it ain't. I tried it at my other house that has bigger backends and it's a 4-9 or solid 10 machine. I have enough other good balls to use that I've set the UR aside for summer practice and then I can give it another shot by maybe trying some different surfaces or adding a new hole.

JustinWi(not sure what happened to him)

Haven't had much time to jump on the forums, alot of interaction on Facebook. Traveling to bowl WSOB and doing the TV shows took up November and then the holidays were crazy. February brings another set of tournaments, and then March brings Nationals setup.

Will try to make it a point to swing by more often, this is pretty much the only active bowling forum left.

P.S. UR - REALLY liked my pin down with a bit of surface, needed it to slow down a bit. If you are seeing over/under, don't be afraid to touch the surface. The pin up one was best parallel to the lane on fresh, I could get deep enough pretty quickly where it would be too forward, that's a big core to get around the corner throwing it away from the headpin with a short hook zone.

I have both a pin-up and and pin-down United Revolt. The Pin-Up ball never turned the corner as advertised and I was very inconsistent with it. The Pin-down ball was way more consistent. I had a few good weeks with it, but nothing special. I finally gave up on the United Revolt.

Now, my Forza GT? that ball is to me what the Venom Shock is to some of you. It's not leaving my bag for a very long time.
Balls: Motiv Trident Abyss, Motiv Golden Jackal, Motiv Hydra and Motiv Hyper Sniper. All made in the USA.

I'm with you on the GT (and the OG Forza).  Never threw redline.  I know many didn't like it, but I'm kind of regretting not trying now since I seem to really match up with the core.  I threw the SS at a demo and was underwhelmed.  I wish they wouldn't have moved away from the torx core.

Back to the subject,  I tried the United at demo and it didn't move my needle either.  What I was seeing was not what the marketing material promised.  I have a Gold Revolt.  It is good on house shots but very over/under on sport.  I don't use it much since it is, to me, a house shot ball and my Forzas are my ball of choice there.

I'm not always the best resource for long term reviews as my bag turns over every few weeks usually because of what I do for Motiv.

That being said the longest tenured balls for me over the last year have been Shock, OG Paranoia, and Cobra. Sometimes this staying power can be a better endorsement.
