Venom Shock Pearl?
« on: July 13, 2019, 06:32:32 PM »
So what are your thoughts on this ball after it's been out a while? It seems like there was a lot of excitement for it leading into the release, but not a ton said afterwards. To me the Cobra and Recoil were more popular after release but then again Motiv has a small footprint around here so it's hard to tell.

A friend of mine said he likes his but rarely takes it out in league feeling like it's a better tournament ball. Is that a common line of thought or just his specific case?

Fantastic ball. It's a great ball for a bit later in the set as the lanes break down a bit.

Less over under than the original IQ Tour Pearl. Great ball for a little burn.

Almost pulled trigger on one but got a Tag Cannon instead.  Higher RG little better for the burn imo plus seeing rave reviews on it from some the regulars on here.  VSP can handle more oil than TC or Hydra from what I understand though.

I agree with the less over under comment. Makes for a good control option for a high friction house shot. A great summer house shot option.

My Hydra is not bad in oil, I like it better than the Tag's...VSP was a little better than the Hydra but not enough to see the difference. But to each his own..

Cool good to know.  Yeah Hydra went on sale like 2 days after grabbed a TC to squirrel away.  Oh well TC looks cooler :P.  Hexion is the bomb have to admit.

I guess I am in the minority.  I am not a fan of the VSP.  I drilled mine the same as my VS with the hope it would provide a shape I could transition to from the VS.

Unfortunately for me, mine is weaker than my VS (not a big deal) and has a very similar shape to the VS.  Carry is much worse for me.  The VSP needs friction, yet for me will rollout upon seeing any.

I felt the same way and quickly sold my VSP, it rolled really forward off friction, but needed a lot of friction to hook. Layout was the same as one of my OG Venom Shocks that rolls great and is super versatile.

Mentioned above, but the Hydra did for me what I expected the VSP to do, so guess hole filled.

And FWIW, many local to me have had great luck with the VSP, so i'm not sure if it was a batch thing, or just something I haven't paid enough attention to in the individual match up.

For me the VSP has been a great ball on light oil house shots or when I find some friction after a couple of games and I want to have a ball that offers control and a decent pop downlane, definitely not as angular as the Hydra, but more controllable and a tad stronger/smoother overall. I still use it when my Shock is too much ball.

The VSP is my favorite balls in the bag. I originally was looking for an IQ Tour Pearl replacement and wasn't going to pay a premium for anything discontinued. It is everything that ball was and more. I used the VSP a lot of lighter THS start to finish. What makes it so good is it does everything so well without sacrificing control.

The Shock solid had been around for years, only hoping this one takes hold.

Tag Cannon is an amazing lighter oil ball as well.  VSP may be great too (don't own) but don't regret picking up a TC in the slightest.

Ditto.  I like the Hydra for a move inside lighter oil ball.  I did not keep the VSP more than 2 months always failed for me.  I thought the VSP would be the ball after the Shock.....for me it wasn't.  I haven't tried a Recoil but I think I would like it better for a stronger inside ball after the Shock.
