Waiting On a New Motiv Hybrid

Hi all,

I’m relatively new to the Motiv family. I have rolled just about any company out there in my (long) bowling life, and I have landed on Motiv because it is an American company, relatively local (Michigan), and I have been intrigued by their stuff for awhile now. I have gathered a “collection” of Motiv balls, which include:

Alpha Jackal
Jackal Ghost
Forge Fire
Rogue Assassin
Rogue Blade
Venom Shock
Venom Shock Pearl

I’ve been having particular success with the Forge Fire, and it is consistently the first ball out of the bag. In building an arsenal, I believe in different cover stocks having their place. Come tournament time, I would like to carry two solids, two pearls, and two hybrids. The Fire is the only hybrid in their line currently. Anyone have a guess, estimate, SWAG, as to when Motiv may be coming out with a new hybrid?  What are some past hybrids that were successful that I may keep an eye out for? Also willing to listen to arsenal suggestions.

May just be my personal opinion but people get way to caught in the weeds of worrying about pearl, solid, hybrid, and not focus enough on shape of the ball.

I have many pearls that have been earlier and stronger than their solid counterparts when placed at the same surface.

I look at my tournament bag like this FWIW:
Strong rolly ball
Strong angular ball
Medium rolly ball
Medium angular ball
Dry lane specialty piece
Spare ball

Also on the Motiv front, the OG Ripcord is a hybrid, and really wakes up when you knock the mega shine of a box finish off of it.

I 100% agree with looking at it this way. I have a Brunswick Kingpin SE which is a pearl cover, but it acts as a benchmark ball because of how rolly it is. It needs defined friction to boom.

With the 7 balls you already have, that's a pretty solid lineup. The Rogue Blade is probably the one I'd look at swapping for something else like the new VIP or a Desert Tank

Thanks for the info and suggestions.  I didn’t realize the Ripcord was hybrid, the website and catalog doesn’t call it out as hybrid, only as Infusion.  So, it has the same cover stock as the Fire.  Good.

I like the versatility of the hybrid cover stock, as far as surface tweaking. Something to ball down from the Fire sounds good, I have been using the Blade in that spot but not real impressed with the ball motion. Ripcord might fit the bill.

The Forza GT was an EXCELLENT hybrid from Motiv. I love mine and still have it.

For what it's worth the sell sheet from the Motiv site for the Ripcord mentions the Infusion coverstock as having the latest development in pearl coverstock technology. That's the only mention I can find about it though.

Great information there, Scott. I have a Ripcord on the floor in the shop waiting to be drilled, I see it taking the place of the Rogue Blade as my “angular medium” and second hybrid.

So, the tournament bag is shaping up to look like this:

Alpha Jackal (strong, box)
Jackal Ghost (pin up, shined)
Forge Fire (strong, 3000 grit sanded)
Ripcord (box, angular medium)
Rogue Assassin (pin down, box)
Venom Shock Pearl (dryer lane, box)
Mix Urethane (spare, emergency ball)

We’ll see if this lineup can help me make some money!

Revolt Vengeance was hands down the best Motiv hybrid. Really wish they would bring back that Vanquish core with some of their new covers. I still have mine and use it often.
