Title: Wanted to try motiv
Post by: Bowlmore on November 07, 2016, 05:37:30 PM
I a slightly speed dominant righty and I'm bowling on a medium to heavier house shot.
I'm looking to try motiv and I have a snap lock and a alpha crux. Any suggestions?

Well, being a little speed dominant myself, I'd say go with the Revolt Havoc as a good choice for a solid.  That ball will handle house shots easily, has a predictable smooth motion and can heavier some heavier volumes.

Tommyboy is steering you in the right direction with the Revolt Havoc. It loves a little oil. I prefer it over my Trident as it reads the lane, but still has some energy at the pin deck when the Trident is DOA for me.

I wasn't a huge fan of the original red Primal and the Remix only works well for me on sport shots, but I had a great look on a somewhat heavier house shot this weekend with the new Primal Fear.

I tried my new Primal Fear for the first time today and was amazed at the strong move and continuous  back end on this ball. Especially on used lanes that were spotty with light oil. The lane conditions were wrong for this ball, yet the ball performed without fail. I feel I am going to love this ball and feel it will compliment my Thrash Frenzy well.

Alright I'll check out the revolt havoc. But how would the primal fear look in my arsenal?

With being a little speed dominant, if you have a decent rev rate, it could work well.  Just keep in mind that the Primal Fear, just like the Primal Rage are going to be very angular balls.  You might need to change the surface slightly with knocking off some polish or potentially using a stronger layout to get it to fit.

Having thrown the original Revolt, the Havoc uses the same core but has a stronger solid cover.  The original works well for me as I can throw it firmer and play straighter while still having plenty of movement downlane.  It also works well on medium THS but will handle some heavier volumes.  The Havoc is definitely good on the THS, but will handle even more volume. If you were to compare to Storm, think of it as being similar to the Marvel-S.

I am at the opposite end of this. I don't see a strong move to the pocket with this ball. Quite the contrary. My ball is not working even close the ball videos I see. My Forza GT has more of move to the pocket. I am very disappointed right now. I can play the Fear down and in sometimes, but moving left and hoping for some swing back to the pocket isn't happening. Maybe it's the way it is drilled. I just don't know right now. I have little confidence in the ball. Since I am not a fan of plugged bowling balls, I may get a another one with a different drilling.

I think the Forza GT is worth a look too.  That ball is just great.

I'm liking my Primal Fear. I can't say the backend has been crazy for me. It definitely moves and it's continuous, but not quite a flip like my Hy-Road Pearl with both drilled the same. This was on a wood lanes medium house shot. Going to try it on a medium house shot on synthetics and see what I get as it might retain more energy and flip harder.

With having the Alpha Crux, I wouldn't go for the Trident or Jackal as that would be overlap. With the Snap Lock, the Primal Rage and Primal Fear are going to be similar so that again might be some overlap. I would recommend one of the venoms, paranoia's, or Forza GT if you're trying to round out your Arsenal. If you don't care about overlap then the Primal Line or Revolt Havoc.

I agree with Alonzo. You have the high end covered with your current arsenal. The Shock is my all time favorite. But I am rev dominant. I would look at ether a shock or GT(or the new Chronic Paranoia) for medium and a Cobra or Paranoia to compliment depending on how much strength you need. Freestyle would complete the 5 ball arsenal with a spare ball in the 6th slot.

is the shock or the new paranoia stronger? Also do you guys prefer the venom cobra and shock or the paranoia's?

For me the Shock is more of a universal ball that can be used on a wider variety of conditions.  I break out the Paranoia when I am looking to get through the drier heads and need a specific shape downlane. It is very long and a lot bigger backend than any Motiv ball I have.  It does need some dry to make the turn.

The shock is more of a true medium benchmark piece that you can't go wrong with it.  You can use it on drier or heavier oil, you just get a different look from it, that still seems to work.
