Really wanting to try Motiv. Been wanting too and never pulled the trigger. Looking to start with a Venom Shock. Where will it fit or replace on my arsenal? Arsenal in profile
-
You could probably replace both the Hysteria and Nomad with the shock strength wise. It would have a different shot shape being a lower RG core, but the Lights Out should fill that shot shape just fine anyway. It would fit perfect between the Disturbed and Lights Out.
Or get yourself a Tribal Fire and that would replace them just as well.

I was going to say what Milo said.... The venom shock is alot stronger then motiv advertises. I just started using the covert and the shock. Both balls are very good.
-
Don't have the shock but from what I've been told it's similar to an iq tour solid. Should give you an idea. I finally drilled my first motiv and drilled a sigma sting and it might be the best ball I've thrown. Definitely best in a while. I love it. I'm probably gonna end up doing a octane and shock eventually.
-
That's interesting. The hysteria is much stronger than I thought. I am needing to ball down with something a bit earlier and weaker

I agree with you on the Sigma Sting tdub, best ball I have used by any brand.

Absolutely get the Sigma Sting. I was throwing Storm/Roto almost exclusively and the Sigma Sting is the best ball I've thrown in a long time. In fact, I would consider it in the top 3 I've ever thrown. It's a great ball for medium patterns and isn't like some pearl balls that are skid/flip. It tends to react more like a hybrid where you get a good combo of length with backend pop while still being smoother throughout. Think of it being similar to a Hy-Road except being more versatile and not as speed sensitive.
The Venom Shock would be a great compliment and it is stronger than advertised. It has a good solid cover, proven core, and is smooth from what I've seen of it. I would say the shape is similar to what you'll get in the IQ Tour Solid.
You could go Covert Revolt (to replace the Disturbed/Nomad), Sigma Sting (to replace the Hysteria) and then the Venom Shock.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about Motiv.

Ok just traded for a venom shock. Figured I would dabble with a used one first to see if I like

Welcome to your new favorite company. :)

Lol. I've been thinking about trying motiv for years and haven't pulled the trigger. Watching Justin's videos and seeing his responses have always made me want to give them a try. The last few releases have just looked damn good to me. So what the hell, time to try it!
-
You'll be very glad you did. I tried Motiv for the first time at the beginning of last season and haven't looked back. Legitimately, every release seems better than the last. Add that to the amazing customer service and commitment to quality...the company is just a winner.
I wish you the best of luck, and if you've got any questions feel free to ask.

Matt nailed it here. Motiv makes great equipment and you'll be glad you tried them out. I'm glad I did my first 2 balls from them earlier this summer. It's nice that there isn't a lot of overlap and that their balls do what they say they will do. The quality is really there.
-
Ok. It's drilled up. 50x4x50. Bowling with it tonight. First try with Motiv!

So......?!?!?

Terrible! Not the ball all me. Release changing every shot. Ball is cleaner than I expected, it's also a bit weaker than my hysteria with them both a 4000. But it rolls and finishes real nice.

Oh man that's the worst kind of night to have when testing something new out! We've all been there, thouthough. Wise of you to recognize that it's you and not the ball. Good luck and let us know how it goes!!
-
I'm well aware I suck tonight. Lol. The ball when thrown correctly does roll nice.
-
Much much better!! I have struggled with carry all year, average down 12 pins so far. 705 tonight. Ball rolled great and carried great. Very impressed!! Tribal fire next? Any opinions on how that will fit?
-
The Tribal Fire is actually a pretty strong hybrid for that price point. In fact, it is slightly stronger than the Venom Shock (51 vs 50 rating) although the motion will be a little different. It's not a true skid/flip hybrid like the Octane (50 rating), but will give a good combo of length and backend.
It could work well but you may need to play with the surface or go with a slightly weaker layout. You may be better off going with the original Tribal or potentially the Ascent Apex drilled stronger. Both would give a more defined stepdown.
One thing I have noticed- the Motiv hook ratings used on their site match the BTM ratings that are used for their reviews. For example, BTM had the Raptor Talon at 57, Motiv had it listed at 57.

I recommend drilling a sigma sting. Great benchmark reaction. I've went from bringing a different ball every week to using the sting every week.
-
I really like the motion of the Venom Shock as a good benchmark. Also I'm not very successful with polished pearls. I'm higher tilt so I need the ball to read a bit sooner.
-
It doesn't really roll that much like a typical shiny pearl. You have to remember that the fusion pearl coverstock os used all the way up to the motiv heavy oil balls like the cruel intent and the primal rage. That said i think you could make a good arsenal out of a revolt, shock and tribal fire. My plan is to go with revolt, bad ass, sigma sting and ascent apex as of now. Possibly a shock for tournaments as well...
-
How is it compared to to the hysteria?
-
The Hysteria at same surface is close with a bit sharper move. Too be honest and I can't believe I'm saying this but I think the shock is going to be more versatile and may replace it in my bag. I just trusted it immediately last night. It kinda of sits perfectly in between hysteria and nomad. Can replace both. They are all three very close. The shock being a just a bit smoother than both, but yet still a nice move to the pocket.

+1. Best benchmark ball out there right now, and one of my favorite balls I've ever thrown. That ball is the definition of versatility and is a killer on THS. Also works great on tournament patterns.

Just purchased a Tribal Fire. Oh boy!

Sent you a PM about the fireball.

What were the numbers for the Primal Rage, Octane, and the Sigma Sting?
