Chicagoland ABT
« on: November 05, 2003, 09:41:03 PM »
Anyone a member?  Is it worth it?  I have given thought to joining the last couple years, but have not yet signed up.  I have bowled in 3 different houses the past 2 years, so adjusting to the different shots shouldn't be a problem.  This looks like my last year to have a shot at the Classic division, and I don't want my first experience to be with the Masters.  How difficult is it to join, and how difficult is it to cash?  I ended last year with a 194 average and it appears I will be 200 plus this season.  Any advice would be appreciated.

JC,
I have been a member of the ABT Chicagoland North branch for over six years.  Is it worth it?  That would depend on the individual.  IMO, it is worth every dollar and minute that I spend bowling in it.

I would encourage any bowler to join.  Since you have obviously been considering joining for some time now, I would say to you "Go for it!"

You may have already found it by way of the link that xman provided, but just in case you haven't, here is the Chicagoland North website link:

http://www.amateurbowlerstourchgo.com/

Feel free to come out and join at any of the upcoming events, with the exception of the Year End Appreciation tournament, which requires that you have bowled at least ten events within the past year.  Show up an hour or so before the squad on which you wish to bowl.  You can join on site and bowl in the tournament.  Be prepared to pay the $25 annual membership fee along with your tournament entry, which is normally $45 for the Classic Division.  Entry fees are listed in the schedule on the ABT CLN website.  ABT accepts cash, checks, and Visa/Mastercard for both your annual membership and your entry fee.  If you choose to participate in the optional sidepots and/or brackets, you need to bring cash for those.  Also, bring a standings sheet from your current league(s) so that your average can be verified on site.

Feel free to respond to this post or PM me if you have any other questions.  We'll be looking forward to having you join the Amateur Bowlers Tour.

Joe - Go for it.
I joined in Feb. of 2002 and haven't regretted it for a minute.
I am not as good as you are, but I only bowl 1 weekly league and a once-a-month league.
There is always a variety of winners, never the same person or persons winning all the time, so fairness isn't an issue.
The volunteers, like Rick, are pretty helpful and friendly too.
You won't get rich, but you do have a chance to make some money, too.
The competition is nice and most everyone seems to have the "us against the pins" attitude.

We have a $4,000 tournament coming up over Thanksgiving you might want to check out. AMF Rolling Meadows, I believe.
