Hello,

I am moving from Chicago to Birdsboro, PA at the end of May. I'm looking for a team that might need a bowler in a scratch or very competitive league for the winter.

Well residing in Berks County, unfortunately on the other side of it, I will give you an early welcome into the county. Being in Birdsboro, you have 2 great bowling alleys in your area that you can travel too (a short drive for both) for leagues and if you are looking for a team, I am sure that you could give these 2 a call and ask if there are any openings if people don't respond to this post.

1) Bowl-O-Rama, in Exeter, straight up 422 from where you are going to be in Birdsboro. Website: http://www.bowl-o-rama.net/
2) Jay Lanes, in Douglassville, which is just down 422 from Birdsboro. Website: http://jaylanes.homestead.com/

Both have been through major renovations in the past 5 years, but both are great houses to bowl at, under very good ownership.

If you are looking for a longer drive, you have another 2 bowling alleys to the northwest of you in Heister's Lanes, in Reading, and Berks Lanes, where I bowl and live near in Sinking Spring.

I''m pretty sure I''ve bowled at Berks before when I visited. Split house, newer, with a bunch of lanes on either side. Also bowled at one of the places on 422 that is on the left side of 422 as you''re heading west.

Berks or really any house in or around the area isn''t too far.

Yep that probably would have been Berks. Jay is also a split house, but only has 12 lanes on each side. Bowl-O-Rama is on the left heading west, so that is probably the other one you bowled at. Berks has a lot of majors leagues during the winter season, at least 1 every night (Friday night is the most competitive from what I hear), most are second shift times, 9:20 or so, so I am sure you could find something there. I bowl in a handicap league on Tuesday nights during the winter at Berks.

Another great resource would be Britton, his username is VideoBallReviews on here as thats the name of his business, those 2 would be excellent resources for the scratch leagues and whatnot in Berks County, as they bowl all over Berks, they are also very good for ball dealings as well.

I live not far from there. Here is the lowdown on some houses in that area.

Bowlerama:
A nice house with a bit more challenging house shot. Straighter is greater there.

Jay lanes:
A nice little house with one of the easiest house shots around.

Berks lanes and Limerick lanes:
They have the same ownership. Both are models of how a bowling center should be run. A fair house shot for all styles. High, but not hugely inflated scores. Both houses are very busy, with a nice arcade and other amenities.

There are other houses within driving distance, but these are the houses I have bowled in. Any of them will be happy to find you a team. A scratch league will be hard to find. There are very few of them.

A little add-on: the same person that owns Berks and Limerick, also own Heisters in downtown Reading. The owner is a very rich person with bowling alleys in the islands too. All 3 houses have a basic house shot that will inflate your score, but not by alot. The shot is definately easier than Bowl-O-Rama's house shot.

As far as scratch leagues go, louie is right there are very few scratch leagues during the winter, summer Berks I know has I think 3 or 4 of them, but the majors leagues are very competitive.

P.S. louie, don't say that they are model bowling centers too loud, many people don't agree with you

Compared to the amf houses and some incompetent private ownership I have run into over the years, Limerick and Berks are really well run.
