Fellow ballreviewers, I'm proud to announce that the Victory Lanes Old School Open is returning to Victory Lanes in Kankakee, Illlinois on April 1, 2012! Longtime ballreviews.com members may remember this event from years gone by. It's a plastic-ball only tournament that gives bowlers from all around the midwest the opportunity to meet fellow members and make some extra cash by demonstrating their shot-making skills. It's always been a great time, and this year will be no different! Here are the particulars:

Question. Is there a limit on the number of balls used? With Hammer, Lane 1, and other companies with plastic with weightblocks, can you use anything plastic?

From Viz-a-balls to XXXLs, if it's plastic and drilled legally, you can use it. I know some people think we should disallow the cored plastics, but we don't want anyone lock anyone out of the tournament if that's the only plastic they carry. Plus, if I'm remembering correctly, in the three years we ran this tournament before, none of the winners were using cored plastics. With the shot we put down and the way the lanes transition, it always comes down to shot-making, not who has the best plastic ball. lol If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

A big thank you needs to go out to Steve Kloempken and all of the great people out at Storm Bowling Products. Their group donated a NIB Belmo Spare Ball (the white Team Storm ball w/a Belmo logo on the cube) and two very nice Storm shirts. All tournament entrants will get one free entry into the raffle for the Belmo Ball and the other balls we'll have up for raffle. As for the shirts, we're thinking one will go to the top qualifier, and the other will go to the tournament champion. Thanks again to Steve K. and Storm for their generous donations! They will help bolster our prize fund and add even more fun to this great event!

Hey, just want to thank everyone who helped make yesterday's plastic ball tournament a great success. Despite falling a little bit short of the numbers we were looking for, the money generated from merchandise donation raffles allowed us to pay out our advertised prize fund!

Congratulations to Mark Denault for defeating Shaun Quinn 2-1 in the title match. Mark definitely was the bowler of the day. He was the only player to finish + for the day. Other than him, everyone else pretty much had to grind it out. It was challenging, but fair and a great deal of fun.

Again, thanks to all of our generous contributors - Steve Kloempken and the great folks at Storm Bowling Products, Brian Graham and the folks at Brunswick/DV8, Shaun Quinn of Rippin' the Rack Pro Shop, and Lance Murray, proprietor of Victory Lanes. We couldn't have done this without you!

For those who didn't make it down this time, stay tuned. We're going to try to run at least one event per month. We're looking at several different formats, doubles, match-play, eliminator, etc. If you're looking to compete on challenging conditions, try out some different formats, and meet some new bowlers in your area, be sure to come down and see us!
