Wisconsin State Tournament
« on: March 10, 2010, 02:52:04 AM »
I am bowling in a few weeks down in Oshkosh and I am just wondering if anyone here has bowled in this tournament yet this year.  I am just looking for how the lanes played, equipment that should be used, and just personal opinions.  Thanks.

I just bowled it this past weekend and found the team shot to be very nice I swung my hot sauce over 3rd arrow and had quite a bit of room outside u just couldn't pull it at all we were all playing almost the same line so it did dry up so I just went to a weaker pearl last game and had no trouble as for doubles and singles it was soup to start until the start of the 3rd game then it opened up a bit but you could play up 7-10 just hadda keep hand under the ball  hope this helps lmk how it goes

Good luck with singles. From what I've heard, handicap leader is @ 890.  A 202 bowler shot 826 scratch.

Thats a nice score for a low 200 average bowler.  I average 205 and hope to bowl a little 700 let alone an 800!

We had oil galore at both houses but most have said it was dry as a bone.

If you can play right of the track at Oshkosh lanes you should be golden. I played inside their small swing with my Evil Siege and left ten pins both sets.

Fox Valley was  a little easier on us, We took the first game to open the lanes up then started swinging it really deep and had good sucess has long as you could rep shots.

mainzer, did the track area evaporate quickly like it did a few years back or were you able to migrate left and stay around the same break point?

Our team goes on March 20th and 21st, I was wondering the same thing about the lanes.  At State, I usually try to play just outside 2nd arrow, it's been really good and really bad, depending on the house.  That's my plan for this year, hope for the best.  Most people I've talked to said it was really oily, but some could play the middle if you don't have too much turn and stay firm.  I've heard this more than once, that it depends when you go, some people who went early say the shot was dry, but lately the people said it was oily.  Good luck!

Play out and break them down.
Then move in a little bit and you should be fine.
Start toooooo deep and you are dead.

Ditto what Bass said.  We bowled the last week of Feb and both houses are wet to start.  Fox Valley (team house) will start to open up by the end of the first game if you are in the middle.  The low end can go in to the third game.
Decent look up 8,9,10 and when you knock that down move left. As Bass said if you play deep to start it's trouble later on.  Lots of corners regardless but if you don't take care of the outside early on and get overly aggressive and the ball gets wide on you, there is enough oil to really make it tough to get back to the hole.  Watch the roads and don't run late in Oshkosh. lots of detours with several ramps closed so you need to run the frontage road.  Check out the Tilted Kilt when you're done there.  Scenery is great and the food puts Hooters to shame.

Actually there aren't any ramps closed.
Just a few bridges knocked out for new road construction.

But be patient with the roads and give yourself some extra time getting around Oshkosh.

Thanks for all the replies.  Should be interesting.  And Mainzer, I replied to your PM before I read that you already bowled there so no reason answering my question in the PM.  Thanks again fellas.

I am bowling this weekend and was wondering if anyone knows if the conditions are still playing the same with the warmer weather? Also if there is any major construction or delays on US 41 South? Thanks.

Doubles & singles required a ball with some surface and feathered speed around second arrow.  I used a pin down Bounty for the first three games and a pin down Hack Infect the back three games.  I led both squads with 741 in doubles and 732 in singles.

Team has INFINITELY more hook and you CANNOT POSSIBLY MOVE ENOUGH LEFT as the shot    breaks down.  IMHO, you don't ball down, you bump left.  I choked my butt off for around 590 in team for 2066 scratch AE.  Trust me, I left about 60-100 pins on the lanes for team event.  Please, heed my words.

Road construction on US 41.
Shouldn't really effect you on the weekend.

Same shot both houses.
Team has more backend reaction than D/S.

Get there early and follow the road signs you shouldn't have a problem unless you are staying in a Oshkosh hotel/motel then it might prove interesting to get across 41.
