Bowlers

Just wanted to let you know, VMSBT will be running the 2nd Annual Baltimore/Washington Summer Scratch Classic again at BRC Perry Lanes August 15-16, 2009 paying $3,000 1st place GUARANTEED.  Last year we had 139 entries and we expect that number to increase this year. Just like last year, I will be taking reservations via the website: http://www.vmsbt.com/VMSBT_Form.html and you can also view the flyer for the event there as well: http://www.vmsbt.com/BWSSC_2009.pdf

I will also have the pattern up on the website as soon as I determine which pattern I want to use. As some of you may know, I’m a big fan of Kegel patterns and we will have another one this year.

•   Entry fee:  $140 ($115 prize fund, $20 lineage, $5 expenses) payable by CASH ONLY
•   Survival boards: $10/ea (Starting games 2, 4 and 6)
•   High game pot: $40 (covers all 8 games of qualifying)
•   Winner Take All (WTA): $10 (Game 8 ONLY)
•   Brackets: $5/ea (3 sets) Starting games 2, 4 and 6
•   High Game of Day (Included in entry fee)
•   High Senior out of the money prize (50 and over bowlers)
•   High Female out of the money prize

THE LANES WILL BE STRIPPED AND RE-OILED AFTER THE 9AM SQUAD.

Please pass the word along about this great event to all your friends. We are only taking 88 bowlers per squad.

Looking forward to getting those reservations.

Well then I agree 100% because there was definitely hook out.  Why not go ahead and make them tough this year? Last years pattern was very playable and as we all know got stupid on the left on sunday.  Try something like highway to hell or dead mans curve, just my .02.

I'll reserve the tougher sport patterns for the monthly VMSBTs. One thing I've learned from bowling in various events is that if you make them too tough, you will kill it. I too don't mind a grind out but bowlers like us are in the minority. ..... This year's pattern will be fair and hopefully the scores won't be too high but still VERY VERY playable.

Last year it took plus 184 to make match-play (20th) and plus 154 for a check (27th). I would like to see both numbers lowered by 50 pins. My main goal is to keep 'em fair. Both sides play from the same angle.

LOL... Last year, the 4:30pm squads' back ends weren't as clean as what you guys had on the 9am squad. So when the head mechanic text me with how they played, I told him that the back ends weren't as clean as the first squad. That is why they were so SQUEAKY clean Sunday morning. You guys on the right had way too much friction on the GUTTER. They actually over hooked and it forced you guys too far left. Hahn wised up after 4 games and shelled down and moved back right to get back and finish 5th. That's all Lint and Mullin did on the left was shell down and stay left. Mullin threw a Tornado all day out there.

Yeah definitely more friction at the ditch on sunday.  Knew something had to be different because I didn't drop any positions after the 2nd squad.  It happens though, luckily it wasn't that way Saturday and the lefties let me make a lil money lol.  Oh well, we will see how it is on the 4th.

No, Chip hasn't signed up yet. He is probably trying to decide which event to bowl. There is a regional in Middletown, DE the same weekend as my event. The regional is 65+ miles away (PBA rule is 50 miles I believe) so no PBA members will get fined if they bowl my event.

Tony,

You do realize what you said in that statement above, that the lefties shelled down and stayed left....um, do they really ever move right of 10?

I wonder what it would be like if the lefties had to play 4th arrow?  Another discussion for another topic.

I am looking forward to the tournament this year and hope I can get an opportunity to do as well as I did last year.  I don't plan on making the same mistakes, so if you give me the gutter again "I'll be all over it like a spider monkey"

Steve I agree with you, lets make them move in where we have to go instead of just shelling down and staying in their comfort zone.  I do believe Tony is trying the best he can though to make the conditions fair from both sides.  That said I take nothing away from anyone last year, you still had to throw it good to score.

So true.  Name me one, just one left hander who has ever thrown it over the 4th arrow in a tournament or even during league for that matter.  All left handers in league go down 5, doesn't matter what style or rotation.  It is just sickening!

Any lefty playing 4th arrow would have to be classified as an idiot because 4th arrow and 2nd arrow are the first thing the righties try to erase with a dry sponge at the first sign of oil.

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner.  I wouldn't be as harsh but a potentional problem I see with forcing both sides to play in is that if there is an OB, then the righties will immediately go to too much shell and will blow the middles up, thus changing the intent of the pattern. Sure, the pattern will force both sides to play them a certain way for PBA and experienced amateurs, but for your average tournament the locals can cause havoc.

    Gang

I bowled on the pattern Wednesday and it will play inside. I could only get to about maybe 9/10 and even then I had to dead "pure" every shot. There is DEFINITE OB on both sides from 8 out on this pattern. I did have a lefty bowl on it and he had good look kinda "slow wheeling" 15 to 10. The right played the same way and I predict it will get better as the day goes. The straight player had a good look going up 12. This pattern succeeds at making both sides play left/right of the second arrow, which is what I want.

Mr. Hahn - No flaming gutter on either side this year!

I'm going on record now and saying, THIS IS THE PATTERN THAT I'M GOING TO USE.

I'm really anxious to see how you guys play it on July 4th.
