Well its almost that time again bowlers. One of the biggest cash pay outs in the southeast is coming again this January. Below are the details:

5th Annual King Pin Scratch Open
Hosted by AMF Boulevard Lanes in Goldsboro, NC
and King Pin Pro Shop, owned and operated by Clarke Hill
$5,000.00 first place guaranteed, based on 150 entries
last 4 years I have ran this the least I have had is 175
Saturday, January 9, 2010 and Sunday, January 10, 2010
Entry fee is still going to be $100.00
6 games of qualifying, then we cut to the top 20 and they will bowl an additional 3 games with total pins
carrying over from qualifying. cut to the top 10 and bowl 1 more game to get our 5 finalist for step ladder
finals. All 20 bowlers will cash guaranteed.
squads times are Saturday @ 12pm, 4pm, and 8pm
Sunday @ 10am and 1pm, finals will be @ 4pm on Sunday
++++ a free bowling will given away to each of the top qualifiers from each of the qualifying squads courtesy of Storm / Roto Grip.

I believe the Bradley Tournament in Kentucky is also this weekend. Although, their main event is Saturday with a sweeper on Friday evening.

The 1st Place to 2nd Place payout isn't that attractive either. Just my .02

Based on a $100.00 entry I think the prize fund is pretty good. When you talk about from 1st to second being half you should look at a pay out for a regional lately. First goes from $3,000.00 to $1000.00. Again the pay out could be better but then the entry fee would def. have to be more. The Bradley is a good tournament if was not it would not still be running. But you are paying $200.00 and from that only $140.00 is going toward the price fund. My tournament you pay $100.00 and $75.00 is going into prize fund and I keep $0.00 and they getting $30.00 for expenses. Make sure you comparing apples to apples there before you get negative.

I agree with you Mr bowling. and yes the tournament is not sanctioned. But you cannot satisfy everyone just keep that in mind. I must be doing something right though this is the 5th year and people keep coming back year after year. And getting sponsors now is even tougher. I guess I do not get an "A" for effort in your opinion then.

Every regional they ran in the East this year, paid AT LEAST 1/2 of 1st, most of them paid more than 1/2 of 1st place. So that comment is false.

Now you're talking! That's a prize list that EVERY tournament director would love to be able to pay out! If there was 1 gripe about it, it would be the difference between 5th and 6th, but it's only a few bucks and it really looks good now.

Where is the Guarantee? If it is based on a requirement than it is NOT a Guarentee. False advertising.

I am in agreement that 2nd should be half of first. If I did not believe I could make the final match I would not bowl. That being the case anyone can win a 1 game match. Loosing more than 50% because the opponent got a break is wrong.

The suggestion that you must be doing something correct only works if you are getting more than you would have if you had a better prize fund. Perhaps you would have more entries if the prize fund was more appealing.

Lastly for me to drive 12 hour 1 way to bowl for 1500 is crazy when the 1st place winner get 5,000. I would bring a car full with me too. None of us like the odds of winning or nearly breaking even. Look at it this way, suppose that 5 of us come in one car, share rooms for two nights that 240 for rooms then we all bowl which is 500 one time and make the cut. Now we have gas and food for two days which is another 500. So we have 1240 invested as 5 people. lets say we finish 2nd. 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th which brings us 2900 back in your prize fund. Where as 2900 is almost half of what 2nd should pay alone. Proper prize funds would indeed allow people from farther away to take a chance. The money in the prize fund should be stacked at the top and not at the bottom by paying more spots... especially in the top since that is the big cut.

if you look at most tournaments now, even the Bradley they put on there flyers based on entries. You never know especially now with the economy how these tournaments are going to go. And to start off with if you think you cannot win you should not go in the first place. I think every true tournament bowler has to go in the mindset that they are going to win the event especially if you are going for the money.
