40 Boards & VMSBT -- Thanks
« on: January 17, 2010, 07:11:15 AM »
Jeff and Tony,

Thank you for a very challenging, yet playable condition this weekend.  Both conditions were not easy but both were playable if you were in the right part of the lane with the right equipment.

Bowlers should look at bringing a couple extra balls with them since they are keeping it hush-hush as to what the condition will be.  You can easily get away with a 4-6 ball arsenal which is what you should be carrying if you're bowling in tournaments to begin with.

I look forward to many of these events in the future and again, congratulate them on a job well done.

Mr. Hahn

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. I know Jeff and I would like to see the entries get to a higher number but I know that the fact that we aren't announcing patterns or putting down THSs has deterred some people from bowling. I know that we are in the minority with that line of thinking but I think people will come out when they can put their egos aside and really want to come out and compete on tournament conditions.

Here are the results: 32 entries

1 Hall, II Bobby, Landover, MD        $  500.00  1750 (+150)
2 Schaden, Jr Dan, Baltimore, MD      $  350.00  1712 (+112)
3 To Chhoeun, Falls Church, VA        $  275.00  1613 (+13)
4 Baker Jeff, Ellicott City, MD       $  225.00  1608 (+8)
5 Lughermo Dave,                      $  150.00  1594 (-6)
6 Tremper Joe, Laurel, MD             $  120.00  1578 (-22)

Percy Mack won the senior/female out of the money with -27.

Walt, Ego's aside.....Your entry fee is too high.  $80 and $150 for 5th?  Your fields are normally fairly strong and that is too many good bowlers to beat out for that return.
I know lineage is high and etc. but bowlers will be one and done if they never break even.  If I bowl 3 of your tournaments I need to finish 3rd or 4th every 3rd time to not lose money.
Not your fault it is the way it is but to most it's a bad investment.

Schaden finished second?  Are you guys sure that's right?  LOL

Just kidding Dan!  Nice bowling to Bobby, Dan and the rest of those who cashed!

The prizes are relative to the number of entries. 32 entries at 1:5 = 6 spots. $150 for next to last cash spot, which is almost double your entry is pretty good. 95% or more events just give you your entry back.

It was an 8 game block, so the lineage expense was higher.

Personally, for an 8-game block I think $80 is... reasonable, a bit on the high side maybe but if you're dealing with $3/game lineage that doesn't leave him much room. Besides, I don't know if there were brackets at this tournament, but I find that's where most of your money is won anyway

There were brackets, survival boards and high game pots.

The high game pots paid: 1st $60, 2nd $15 per game (8 games).
Survival boards paid: 1st $100, 2nd $60, 3rd $20 on all 3 boards.

With the prize fund and optionals, I paid out over $3,600.

Hahn,
Latise & I thank you for the plug. I know I was glad the Shark had a hook zone on both sides to keep things fair as possible.

People bowl tournaments because they enjoy the game. Saturday I sat behind the desk with my wife and offered bowlers an option. Tony, Slater & Gloria offered an option on Sunday and I was thankful. Ask Cavey about the days when we rode at least 90 minutes to find a tournament. Many areas of the country would love to have what we have, VMSBT, 40 Boards & now Money Bags offering tournaments monthly.

Some tell me it's not worth it because we aren't bowling for enough. If there is anyone willing to pay me $20-60/hour to do what I enjoy, let me know.

The prize fund does suffer when only 30 guys show up.  I remember just a couple years ago Tony was paying $800-$1000 every tournament with 60-80 boards, now its $500 with 30 boards so it is disappointing, but at least its something to bowl

Tony,
My point is that if the entry fee is $30 and you miss cashing 3 straight times, you're only out $90.  At your rate now it's $240.  The $25-$30 tournaments still pay $250-$500 on top because entries are over 60 and bracket money goes towards the prize fund.  All I'm saying is you need the donaters there and if you dig too deep into their pockets they will not continue to show up.

Current Exempt,

Your complaints aren't anything new... but you bring no solutions or alternatives to the table with your arguments.  Please explain how you are covering high lineage on a weekend, while keeping the prize fund worth bowling for?

As someone who donates more times than not, I know I can't bowl every tournament Jeff and Tony offer.  I make the tournaments I can because I have the itch to compete on tough conditions, with the money being secondary.

We are very lucky to have the action around that we do. Jeff and Tony run fair tournaments and give the bowlers as much bang for their buck as possible. I don't feel that $80 for an eight gamer is high at all.

I prefer to not know what is being put out, let your ball tell you where to play. It was nice to get out and bowl on something challenging with a competitive field. I wish I would have been able to bowl on Sunday but the boss had other plans.
