Estimated time: We should be done by 4pm, including roughly a 1 hour break between games 5 & 6 for the house to strip and re-oil.

I personally think the choices of the two lane conditions will be quite interesting.

The Chameleon will be applied to the lane with a Brunswick Lane amachine and Brunswick oil.

The USBC pattern will be applied with a Kegel machine and Kegel oil.

Quite the difference there alone...

I think the competitors will find that the lanes will break down quite differently. I am looking forward to the challenge.

Considering that the PBA patterns were much flatter "on the left at Fort Meade" I think this should be quite the contest.  BTW: Left handed averages on the PBA patterns at Fort Meade this season were down over 11 pins. Does that make you feel any better????

I hope wabullets bowls.

"Broadway Joe" is not going to average 262.5 like he did at Terrace Lanes?

Personally I think people telling the patterns have hurt the local tournaments.  You tell your house guys its a tough pattern they don't bowl.  Tell your "tournament" bowlers its a house shot and they don't bowl.  There are very few guys like myself that really don't care what you put down, you get 15 mins to find a look, simple as that.  Show up and Shoe up!

I agree with you on that one. Either they gon bowl or they gon complain.

I had the results, but I can't see to find it.  What I can remeber is:

Bobby Hall won  +320,
Joe Tremper 2nd somewhere around +200
Joy Esterson was either 3rd or 4th somewhere around +75
Lee Brosius 5th +3
a tie for 6th -13 (last regular cash)

High senior/female (Jeff combined the two) -98 (me)

As can be seen from the dramatic score drop, it was tough.  I watched bowlers (including me and Brosius) drop 100+ pins from Chamelon to the USBC National pattern.  To give an idea of how some dropped, Brosius was +120 and I was -3 on Chameleon.  Needles to say, we both struggled on the Nationals pattern.  I know I missed way too many simple spares and gave away too many pins because of mssing those spares.

But, it was a good test of shotmaking.  If you hit your mark consistently, you could score, but if you missed, you paid for it.

Jeff, care to add anything

Colin

It is nice as a tournament director when the bowlers tell their version, "of what happened".

The truth is, I let Bobby Hall bowl on his own pair for all 10 and the house shot was applied. He made them look easy with the Roto Grip Rogue Cell he used start to finish. He had the highest game on the Chameleon, 296, don't ask! And on the USBC Open Championship with 279 (front 8). So Bobby bowled his own tournament, then Joe Tremper had his own tournament as he busted a move on the USBC pattern. "Broadway Joe" was grabbing folks by the hair and snatching their head back as he passed by. Third through 6 was tight between Joy Esterson, Chhouen To, Lee Brosius and a 6th place tie at -13 between Terry Wiley & Brian Cavey. Colin did a nice job ENCOURAGING the "Super Bowlers" to stay in the cash number as he snagged that check with -98.

2 ladies and 32 men showed up -- one person quit at the break.
Payout: $715, $475, $300, $225, $175, $150 & $100 high sr/female
$90 entry ($60 prize/$2.50 sr/female prize/$27.50 lineage/$0 expenses)

40 Boards & A Ball wants to thank the 150 bowlers who made the tournaments a success. We've heard plenty of suggestions (as usual) and we will (as usual) see which ones are possible and work them into the routine.

Don't forget June 5 we have a 5 game sweeper at Bowl America Glen Burnie & Opposites Attract runs June 6-7.
