Great articles on Oil Pattern Breakdowns
« on: May 18, 2012, 10:44:46 AM »
I have recently come across some really excellent articles written by Ted Thompson reguarding oil patterns focusing on carrydown and oil breakdown. As I am getting back in to bowling in a big way I wanted to address weak spots in my game. The biggest weakness I have and I think a lot of bowlers have, whether they want to admit it or not, is the mental game. For me it starts with remaining focused and not letting frustrations ruin my chances with games still left to play. Also a major part of my mental game that needed work was knowledge of oil patterns with learning to better read lanes, locating not just a line to the pocket but the best line to the pocket to carry, and adjusting to them as they breakdown over the course of the tournament. I came across the Kegel website showing all the patterns that are out there. As I navigated through the website it is when I came across the atricles I mentioned before. I found them so informative that I had to post links to them here for everyone to read and hopefully receive some feedback from everyone on their thoughts of the articles, how lanes breakdown and create carrydown, and how everyone normally attacks it.

Well I hope everyone gets something from the articles. Here they are:

Good articles. Thanks for the link. There's a good book to read that can help your mental game. It's called "Focused For Bowling" written by Dean Hinitz. He's a sports psychologist that specializes in bowling and helps a lot of pros.
