I was told this tournament is usually on a grueling pattern so let us hope that holds true.

Its been there version of the US open pattern for the last year or so.  Ive never bowled the open, but other guys that have bowled on said its not exactly like it, however it is a tougher fair pattern.  Its playable and if you throw good shots you can score on it, but its defintely not a house pattern.

Man talk about getting bang for your BUCK!! 10 games for $25? And the rest goes to the prize fund?  Can't beat that with a stick.  I wish I could bowl this one...but I gotta save for the wedding.

That's not many cashers.  Were entries that low?  If so, any idea why?  10 games usually allows for a lot of bracket action which may draw entries.

We had 23.

Free state Tournament Frederick
Moneybags tournament was today also

He runs a great tournament, not sure why the guys aren't more interested in bowling 10 games on good pattern.  Why didn't you come out DT?

The problem is the house guys will not bowl on the tougher pattern.  They would rather drive 40 mins and bowl in a $25 tournament that pays $250-$300 to win instead of bowling on what I consider the fairest pattern any tournament puts out.  Its tough but not unplayable.  Make good shots and you can score.  You don't have to shoot 250+ every game to make money and its $75 entry fee and $50 of it goes towards the prize fund.  Its all about egos though.  Guys will line up to bowl the red-eye for $90 on a dead wall for 10 games and have to average 230 just to cash, avg 250 for 10 games to win.  Its sad but true.  Theres probably 15-20 guys that avg 210+ in that house in only 1 house guy bowled yesterday, thats pretty bad.

Yeah, how come the locals won't bowl a tournament in their own center.  It's not like the entry fee is that high either.  Not like they are bad bowlers either if they are 210+.

They know they will average 175 at best on the harder stuff so they don't bowl.  Mike L summed it up well.  But what they don't realize is that the more entries there are, the lower the avg to min-cash will be.  If you look at the "normal" top 5, there is no way +130 would be low to cash if there were, say, 15-20 more entries.  I'm sure the house bowlers look at the scores and say "OMG I can't avg 210 on this, I won't bowl!!1!11!"

If you want more entries in a tournament, you gotta put down a house shot.  It's just the way it is.
