PA State Bowling Tourney
« on: April 23, 2013, 08:35:39 AM »
I am trying to get some information about the lanes for the Pennsylvania state Tournament this year. I will be bowling team event Friday and D/S on Saturday. I have been trying to find some things out about both houses online. It looks like Chackos Family Bowl for the team event has synthetic lanes and the potential for some high scores. I have not found out much about Stanton Lanes for D/S events. Any help on either house is greatly appreciated.

The other house has an easy sport shot,  Flood across the middle.  That is all I know so far.

That doesn't make sense.  If it's a sport shot, it can't be flooded in one part of the lane.  The ratio of oil can be a maximum of 3:1.  Also, I've never seen a state tounament that puts out a THS at one house and a sport shot at the another.

The shots seemed pretty similar to me they just played a touch differently due to the different lane surfaces. I bowled well at Stanton and played the lanes similar at Chacko,s but just couldn't get the ball through the pins the right way. I was out of the pocket just twice for 625 in the team event at Chacko's.

Where were you trying to play the lanes at? What line were you trying to play?

Bowled s/d...  Second squad through on our pair (many others had fresh oil).  Our pair was just beat up.  Heads were pretty toasted.  Anything right of 15 hooked at the arrows.  Moved in to around 20 at the arrows and had an extremely touchy shot.  Any push right and I couldn't get it back to the pocket.  Anything left and it ran high.  Bowled poor..Shot low 500 set.
Swap pairs for doubles and had one of the fresh pairs (besides a few games for singles).  Much different shot...  Played 13 out to 5 all 3 games.  Shot 190 with three x's and 7 9's...stone 3 9 pins and left a couple weak 10s.  Finished with 260, 260 for a low 700 set.

Need Head oil and the right angle to get through the pins to carry...

Good luck

Strapper,
Thanks for the report, it almost sounds like from what you said and some other things I've heard you can play more direct at both houses if the lanes aren't beat up too much, at least thats where it seems everybody at this point is scoring from.

Had a good look on fresh at team house.  Playing an outside line.  Started 10 out to 5 and migrated in to about 15 out to 5 by end of set.  Shot 300, 770...had four 10s during second game transition, otherwise could have been a huge set.  Throwing a Wrecker in box

Bowled this past weekend....you could definitely score in both houses IF you could carry. That was my problem all weekend. I would get a double or a turkey then a single pin. At Chackos I shot 657 with a total of 17 single pins and no opens. I left nothing but the back row the entire match. At Stanton Lanes I again had the same problem, 648 singles & 614 doubles. A lot of single pins! I was using a motic Ascent solid no polish, that was my best look all weekend in both houses. It blended the pattern nicely for me where as I was seeing a lot of guys getting that over under reaction with their polished equipment. I saw the over/under when I was practicing with my hyroad. I played 14-12 at the arrows and 10-8 down lane. As I said before I didn't miss the pocket at all until doubles match, may have had something to do with bowling 6 games that day........there some honor scores shot over the weekend. Also, if you are looking for some good eats while you are there check out Maers BBQ off the square!!!! The pulled rib sandwhich I had was to die for and they didn't skimp on the meat either!

Chacko's is usually a score fest; they fly. Pins bounce, but they break down quickly. Stanton is wood, mids get choppy quick. Carry down messes everything up because of early hook and fickle back ends. Live up in that area and have bowled both places many times.

Usual plan of attack is something with surface and medium response to friction at Stanton at fresh. When they break down, shiny and strong in the back.

Chacko's is the opposite. I usually go shiny and strong out of the gate because of carry- pins bounce. They break down a bit, I go straighter. Watch for weak 10's at that point, as carry decreases the straighter you go.

Enjoy. And wear shorts, it gets hot at both places.

I already bowled all events the last week in April. Fresh squad for Singles/doubles and team. For singles/doubles, I had a huge carry problem. I just couldn't get out of the 190-210 range for scores. The shot was there at first, then when they broke down I was lost. Had such a over/under reaction. Chackos it was what most people have said. Definitely able to shoot some big scores there. Corner pins were a little problem, but not bad at all. I was just awful with my spare game all weekend.
I used a pin up deep purple taboo for the team for all 3 games, went about 18-8 for 3 games.

I'm going back up again this weekend with another group and plan on bringing 5 different balls than what I had before. I'll be bringing a Big Hurt, Deep Purple Taboo, Wrecker, Eruption (6in pin above middle), Hyroad (Pin-axis). My plan for the minor events is to stay as straight as possible for as long as possible
