Winter Leagues in the Queens area
« on: July 29, 2008, 05:44:51 PM »
Hey guys. I will be attending St. John's in September, and Im trying to figure out if I should join a league, or just practice to stay sharp and only bowl tournaments. I won't have a car, so transportation is going to be a problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I definately plan to do something, this is the only sport I actually enjoy.

It has been announced JIB lanes has a new management and they will be converting the lanes to synthetic, completion time in November.  The winter leagues are said to start on time and bowl thru the conversion.  The
person taking over is reputable person owning 4 other bowling centers 2- Brooklyn, 2 more on LI>  JIB is on Jewel Ave/Parsons closer to Queens College but not too far from SJU.  Supposely, one of the managers was an Asst Mgr at Woodhaven Lanes which closed back in May.  She is good.  Best of luck.

I know there are options of places to bowl, but without a car im trying to decide if its worth committing to a league, especially since Im hoping to bowl for SJU.

If you don't have a car, then how you will get to the lanes in the winter when the roads are bad?

I'd say try out for the team, but remember St. John's is usually very good.  If you do not make the team, I wouldn't commit to a league with no transportation, and maybe just practice whenever the time is right.

Best of luck to you with the try outs though, and keep us updated with your progress!

Yeah I have a car, but since I can't park on campus im leaving it on Staten Island. I don't know if taking public transportation with 4 bowling balls, weekly, is worth the trouble, especially since I broke my bag yesterday.

I didn't bowl PSAL, I went to catholic school.

And yeah, where did you hear that Pepe bowls for SJU?
They already have a talented crew with Chase, McAuliffe, and Wodz, Pepe would be icing on the cake, but thats news to me.
