Ball Drillers in DC/Maryland area?
« on: July 16, 2009, 06:06:10 PM »
I am moving to the DC area (specifically Silver Spring, MD) in a few weeks and looking for any suggestions on good drillers/pro shops in the area.  I am very familiar with layouts/surfaces, but I tend to be very sensitive to the smallest errors in the way a ball is drilled (pitches, spans, etc.).  Basically, I am willing to drive a little if I have to, in order to find someone who can be counted on to drill up my specs consistently.  Thanks in advance.

Since you are not being answered...I go to Glen Burnie Pro Shop and Ko is very good at hitting the lines & pitches.

Glen Burnie is about 35 minutes from Silver Spring. You have a lot of options in our area to say the least.

Welcome to the area!

Indeed, you have a number of options available to you in our area. Personally, I use The World Class Pro Shop run by Gary(Guru)Parsons. It is located at the Capital Plaza bowling center in Prince Georges County. He also has a shop connected with Red Nelson, called Bowler's World, located on Allentown Way, also in Prince Georges County. Gary is famous in the bowling community and does great work, with a personal touch.

Then there are two Pro Shops located in Crofton now. One is run at the Crofton Bowling center off Priest Drive in Crofton and is run by Mike Warboy & Lee Hosgood. The other shop, I'll have to defer to DP3 to give you the location of, since I have not yet visited their new location.

Then there is also, Carmen Don's Pro Shop in Alexandria, Va which is nationally renown and top notch. They have many serious pro staffers on duty, who do a superb job in the service area. If you PM me, I can give you all the pertinent data later.

Just to clear things up from Jesse James' post, I no longer have any pro shop affiliation nor do I know the whereabouts of the new twelve in a row pro shop.

Nope, I am not drilling anywhere now.  I've heard alot of people I used to drill for want me to come back around but I think I'm going to take a bowling hiatus for at least a year or so.  I don't really know much about other shops to make a qualified enough suggestion of who's good and who's not.

Doc's Pro Shop in Forest Hill Lanes ... They have a lot of experience and do good work. If you want the ball exactly the same just bring the ball that feels best and he can match it. Give Neal a call and talk to him 410-399-9505 .... Regardless of where you go just make sure you take the ball and tell the ball driller up front you want it to feel the same or you don't want it at all.

Twelve In A Row is in Gambrills now if I remember right.

Northface, why did you ask if I was joking? A pro shop does not stay in business 40+ years telling one liners.

Thanks everyone for all the responses.  Nick, if I decide to punch up anything new, I will most likely make the trip down to your shop.
