Title: Bowlersparadise - great prices but.......
Post by: applegam on May 15, 2010, 11:17:57 AM
I know a lot of you saw that great sale they had last week.  So, I picked up a Mission for $109.00 shipped.  A great price to be sure.  In the special instructions at check out, I specifically stated to send me a pin out of 3-4, and if they could not honor that request to please contact me.  The ball arrived yesterday, and sure enough it was only a 2-3.

I know, it's not that big of deal.  But I'm use to getting what I ask for.  I usually go through Buddies.  If you ask for a pin postion or top weight, you get it.  If they can't get it for you, they call you to ask what you would like to do.

It's still a great deal to be sure, but would have been nice to get the pin out that I requested.

Welcome to the world of buyer beware. You got a first quality, high performance ball with decent specs shipped to your house for $109, yet still didn't get satisfaction.

Crooks should've just sent your cash back since they didn't have what you requested.

 I hate crooks.

I bought a Mission, and also asked for a 3"-4" pin, with 2.5-3.5 oz top weight.

I got the requested pin and 3 oz top weight. They must know you're from MI, applegam.

Yeah, that must be it.....   I'm planning on bringing this to Reno next month.  MI bowlers have been tearing it up there.  Time to slow them down.. :0

That was a GREAT price and I am mad at myself for not pulling the trigger on a Mission. I have one drilled up but wanted to have an extra one NIB.

And, thank you for making mine!

I got your point alright. You bought a highly sought after ball, at a highly discounted price, got it shipped to you for free, then whine when it isn't absolutely perfect.

You got a high performance, best selling ball with good specs shipped to your house for about 1/2 of what it would cost you in a local shop, yet you complain that the pin is only 2-3 instead of 3-4 and they didn't give you a personal call before sending it?

For $109, you could've gotten a ball with a 6in pin, the cg out of line 3 inches the wrong way, and 5oz topweight.

Morons. Takes one to know one.

What will the discrepancy in pin distances do to what you wanted out of the ball?  Do you or your driller marry to a plan and then immediately bail on that plan when the ball arrives outside of initial desired specs?

Gameplan a new strategy based on the ball in hand, return the ball, or sell it.  I don''t think it''s gonna be that tough to fetch $125-130 for the ball if you really want to start with a ball with a 3-4".  Have you contacted Bowler''s Paradise to see if they''ll work with you?

I must agree with applegam on this one. This is 2010. When you specify a particular size, color, weight, etc., in this day and age you should be able to get it. He even went so far as to tell them to contact him if they couldn't fulfill his order correctly. Although this error on bowlersparadise.com is not the end of the world it is still a matter of principle. If it were me I would contact them about the error and send the ball back and wait for the correct item to arrive.......and then wonder about doing business with this company again.

My wife and I have been spoiled I guess when it comes to customer service. We've dealt with some of the best companies in the world......LL Bean, Honda, Lands'End, etc. We sometimes foolishly expect ALL companies to bend over backwards for us. Good luck applegam.

Yes, when I order a ball -  I've already decided EXACTLY what I want to do with it.   I wanted to do a high pin on this one.  I have pretty small fingers, and don't use a 31 bit to install grips.  What this means is that it's much harder to put the pin where I want it, and still get the finger weight under 1 oz.  I'd also rather use a weight hole to fine tune the reaction, not depend on it just to get the ball statically leagal.

Again, I'm not saying that this ball is a complete piece of crap.  It's a great ball and it was at an unbeatable price.   All I'm saying is that on one of the particular specs, I asked for one thing and got another.

I understand your frustrated with not getting "exactly" what you wanted but it's not like they sent you a ball that was that far off from what you requested. You ask for a 3-4 and you got a 2-3. What is the actual pin distance of the one you received?

If the ball you received is close to 3, then you should not complain.  If it is closer to 2 then you should complain.  3 inches is the same regardless of what the box says.

Yes he should complain...

He specified EXACTLY what he wanted....period.

If they didn't have the EXACT specs he was looking for they should have contacted him and said we don't have this ball with those specs and here is your money back..

I think it is called CUSTOMER SERVICE...

The mistake was made on the part of the seller....period!

I guess I look at things a different way. I have bought online and direct for 4 or 5 years. I also buy about 15-20 NIB balls a year. I always ask for 2-3 pin and I would say about 75-80% of the time I get what I want. Sometimes its not even close to what I requested but I take that into consideration for buying online and saving money. If I want exactly what I want everytime I would forget about saving a few bucks and just buy everything at my pro shop.

NO online pro shop is going to guarantee specs, just some are better than others. When I buy direct from the manufacturer, they don't guarantee specs either.

I understand the frustration of not getting what you want, but IMO that's the price you pay for buying online and saving money.

I had the same experience Applegam did. Asked for a 3-4" pin, 3.25 oz tw, pin cg and mb aligned.  I ordered two Virtual Energys.  They both came with shorter pins, much less top weight, and they were 1" out of alignment.

I will be relunctant to order from them again, and will not recommend them.  Blockbuster and Buddies have ALWAYS called me they could not match my request, that is where my business will go.

I agree with the poster. Asking for an exact item, and being sent something else - it's like ordering a size 9 pair of shoes, and being sent a 7.5 - because it's close.
Or - my favorite - asking for a 2X shirt and being handed an XL - because after all, if it's that big, it should fit everyone...

I run an online business, and follow up with every order that isn't EXACTLY as the buyer specified. I would expect no less from Bowlers Paradise.

your comparing pin disances to shoe size and shirt size? first off there is absolutely no comparison!! second, i'm sure online business is nowhere near the size of bowlersparadise so you probably don't have a clue how many orders are placed a day there. i'm sure they saw the common number of 3" and gave him what they had available in the warehouse for the sale price. send it back if your not happy with the product. yeah it's inconvenient but for the price how can you complain?

Why is difficult to understand why applegam is NOT completely satisfied?  He asked for a specific product, paid for a specific product, but did not receive the SPECIFIC product he asked and paid for.

+1....online buyers need to realize that this is part of the risk they take when ordering online. If you want exact specs then go to a brick and mortar shop to order the ball and tell them to wait to drill it until you see it. Or maybe they will have exactly what you want in stock.

It is just another example of "you get what you pay for".

I submitted my issue via their website this past Saturday.  It's been 3 full business days since then, I have have had no contact from them at all. I filled out their form, including my order number, email address and phone number.   I at least expected them to say that pin position is not a spec that they guarantee to honor.

The point of this forum is to share experiences with online proshops with others.  So, you can form your own opinion based off of this.  I have my opinion, and you have a right to yours.

For me, I expected that pin placement was not that big of request.  It's not like I asked them to open the box and actually measure the exact distance and if the MB was in line or not. I only asked them to look at the label and pull a 15 lb 3-4 pin.  Personally, I don't think that's asking too much.  Other online shops don't have an issue with it.

I know some of you think - "well at 109.05 you should be happy with whatever you get".  I disagree with that.  I don't think the price you pay for a ball should determine the level of service you get.

It's back to Buddies for me.

Ok. I'm trying really hard to not be offended by this comment in response to a post I made. I was comparing online business methods with online business methods. first of all - you have NO IDEA what size my business is - or what size my bowling shirt website is. Second - Nick with Bowlers Paradise didn't grow his business on shoddy customer service. Problems and mistakes happen. It's what you do WHEN they happen that sets one business apart from another. No matter what the size of business, service is the differentiator. Period.

I give up.  Some people just don't get the point.  All I wanted to do was share an experience with an online proshop.  All of these comments - "you paid $109 for a ball, be happy with what you get" are ridiculous.   Again - I don't belive the price that you pay for a ball should equate to the level of customer service you get.  I just wanted to share the fact that this online merchant does not honor pin requests.  Thats all.   I thought I would be helping out fellow bowlers who order balls online.   I didn't intend to turn this into a online bashing thread.

I've been really busy at work, have not had a chance to call them.  BUT - I emailed them 10 days ago.  Still no response from Bowlersparadise.  I'm sorry, but that is just unbelievable.   Name one respectable online merchant that just ignores these messages?  Not online bowling sites, but just online merchants in general.   Unreal.

Take this information and do with it whatever you want.  For me, I will never do business with them agian.
