Title: Cliff Barnes/BowlersMart.com
Post by: milorafferty on March 10, 2014, 04:29:42 PM
Did anyone else buy the latest XR release yet?

I bought one last night, no idea what it is, but I paid $139.99 for it. LOL

And it shipped out today.

Thought they didn't go on sale until March 17.  ???

They don't go on sale to the "General Public" until March 17th.

If you bought one(or more) of the original XR balls, Bowlersmart is giving you a chance to buy it early.

But they still don't tell us what we bought. LOL

That's a great question. I didn't read the email that close and just assumed that it was limited to 333 again. But it doesn't actually state there will only be 333 balls in this release.

If it's more than 333, then it's not that limited of a release.

It does not say there is only 333 made this time.
Just saying

True, it doesn't say much of anything. It was the same way last time as well until more information was slowly released. Im only going to risk buying one this time. If there is 400 or less then its an easy sell. If it is a bigger quantity it could be ugly.

Still if they do 3 or 4 different weights having two 15lbs wouldn't be too hard of a sell.....and now I talked myself into buying both again. :(

I have two coming....just working the past one into the rotation and sold the other to a friend as I will this offering.

Pretty much sure I know what it is....just go their FB page and look at the comments.

Hype driven marketing, plenty of great equipment out there that doesn't come at a premium price.  Plus I'm not one to play the, "I have one and you don't", game.

Simple solution, don't buy one.  ::)

+1. I don't get it, but maybe I'm not meant to. (I get buying them and flipping for instant profit...I dig capitalism....it's the people paying a premium for one I don't get)

Paraphrasing P.T. Barnum,
"No one ever went broke underestimating the gullibility of the American public."
Barnum is widely, but erroneously, credited with coining the phrase "There's a sucker born every minute".

Same here, I almost passed on the first one, but thought, "What the hell" and grabbed them.

The Fear wasn't that great, but still profitable. I can always make money on Vibes of course. Even the Grape Vibe is bringing a high price now.

I will continue to buy the XR releases, until it proves not to be worth it anymore.

Post by: kidlost2000 on March 12, 2014, 10:38:25 AM
True. The Fear was just an overseas release so no individual number or anything else unique. It didnt help that they released another Widow for the US market.

Yea, I'm kicking myself for not buying the Network.

But seeing how far the price of the Protocol has dropped, I will get a Network for around $100, I just have to wait for it. :-)

Nice theory, but where are you going to get one for $100?

I'll just go with buy for $139 and sell for $275-$300 instead.

how about no...i will never get how peolpe can justify paying almost triple the original price just because they missed one the first time around...just so freaking dumb when you know what they originally went for...

So you are saying that anyone that pays more than $6-8k for a 1968 mustang would be dumb? It doesn't matter what the original price is if it is no longer available at the price. The price the market sets is all that matters anymore. Supply and demand

A collector car is an investment, a bowling ball is not.

A collector car is an investment, a bowling ball is not.

Minor correction:

A collectible car can be an investment, but not in as big way as bowling ball such as the Vibe XR.

A Vibe type of ball, like a Virtual Gravity, will almost guarantee that there will be some interested party willing to pay a little to a lot over the retail price, especially when the quantities are very limited. Although the return on your investment with a bowling ball will often not compare to that of a vintage car, many people do buy it as an investment.

I don't doubt what you say, but for me (and it doesn't sound like I'm alone), I'm unconvinced that this ball or other 'rare' balls, can do something that none of the other 100 balls on the market can't. Certainly not to justify plunking down two to three times what any of those other balls cost.

That said, I'd buy one in a heartbeat at regular price to resell. I don't have to understand it to take advantage of it. Which is probably why we have a crap load of beanie babies in a hermetically sealed container (some bets are better than others).

4 pages and nothing about the actual ball or any talk of the other XR Vibe.

I just starting using my Blue XR with my first pin down drilling (50 x 3.75 x 72) and so far so good and I have the Envy coming.

With both being solid in color and shined what are we getting from the Envy that is different from the first offering? I was told in the phone that if I like the first XR then I will love my Envy.

Sorta surprised that we did not see a Pearl, Hybrid or a matted coverstock. Details will be announced on the 14th. I would have loved to see the carbon fiber inner layer that the Deadly Aim has in this ball.

Any good results with the past offering and what do you think the Envy will be? The same but in Lime Green?

I do find it a bit odd that they offered the past XR owners first crack without "some" ball info. Specs, Color and coverstock info would have been plenty.

Once I see the details I will figure out if mine will ever be punched up or not.

Extracted out the pearl leaving just the solid, so just to be clear, it's not a hybrid...
