I have probably 8-10 balls drilled by Chris. I had problems with drillers locally and decided to take the 3 hour drive to CT to see him and haven't looked back

It is such a great feeling to open a box from your doorstep, take it to the lanes, and bowl with it without having to touch the thumb hole or worry about fit. Thats what you get from Chris.

I drilled a defiant soul (which I won from Buddies in December) and a rotogrip Outlaw.

They were drilled with switch thumbs - I sent him my favorite ball to match up - then after he drill up the two, he resurfaced the old ball - which now rolls better than ever.

My local pro shop is not happy to drill equipment I buy on line - he takes weeks to drill my on line equipment - and I bowl with him!    I got tired of waiting, so I contacted Buddies - I had two balls done in one week - they fit perfectly.  The lay-out advice was great and Chris drilled the Outlaw exactly like the base-ball I gave him.  I have a quarter scale and confirmed the angles and spans.   The switch thumbs were perfect!

I would not hesitate at all to have anything drilled by them.

Admittedly, I don't use him anymore, but Chris drilled 5 balls for me and they were all of the highest quality.

If you order a ball from buddies, the ball could be drilled by a number of employees.  He is not the only one that drills.

Please keep in mind that if a driller can not hit the lines and set the machine to the proper pitches, they will soon be out of business.  Drilling should not be the problem, getting the proper fit should be.

What I am saying is that if Buddies or any other online shop has your specs AND they are correct, they should be able to drill you a ball.  But, if you have a fit problem, please see your local pro shop.

Chris is a great guy, who you can ask any question and he will give solid advice or help. I'm not sure he drills all of the balls I get from Buddies, but I'm sure anyone who works for him is required to be proficient at drilling, as Buddies is known for their work and service. I have also sent used balls to them for plugging and re-drilling and they always come back perfect and with superb color match. I had a new ball crack shortly after I got it from them and they had another on the way to me immediately. I have no doubt in my mind that they are as caring and expert in their field as anyone I've ever dealt with.

Stan stands up for local pro shops and that is a good thing, but he is mistaken in one aspect, just because a pro shop has your specs, it doesn't mean they can or will drill your stuff the same every time. If he's had a lot of experience with numerous shops he would know this. It takes a pro shop owner who is committed to making sure their customer gets a perfect fit and the right ball for their needs, every time. That's what Buddies does!!

TDC, I am not knocking any online shop.  Every bowler shops where he/she wants to, but please tell me how Buddies makes sure they get a perfect fit everytime and gets the right ball that they need everytime ?  Unless you send in your hand and tell them every physical problem you have, its impossible to check your fit over the phone or over the internet.  Also, Buddies or any other online shop has to verbally interpret what your requirements are before suggesting a specific ball.  How is this done without knowing your game (seeing you bowl) and knowing the lane condition you are bowling on ?

TDC, like I already said, if a driller can not hit the lines and set the machine to the proper pitches, they will soon be out of business and that goes for local as well as online shops that drill.  If your local shop can not meet your requirements, then by all means go somewhere else, its your choice.

i hardly think people go to buddies online to get a ball recommendation any more than a general medium/heavy ball rec. you can determine the layout by their release specs and fit by the numbers they provide on the form. if they want an exact fit they send in a ball they like and they copy it.....that a hard process

Incorrect Cheech. I get ball recommendations often from Chris. I have sent video of myself to Chris and a ball for copying. We have had many conversations on what I'm looking for and what ball and drilling he thinks would work for me. I have never found it a hard process and in fact love the ease of how the process plays out!

Yeah, I can attest to what everyone is saying, when I got my stuff drilled by Chris it was an involved and thorough process and we made sure that we got the layout and ball reaction I was looking for.

Per Chris posting in another topic sometime back, if you know your specs and tell them how you want the ball drilled, that is all the info they need. They don't need your ball then.

Some people measure differently

If you are refering to pro shops, all of them in my area measure the same way. However some are more accurate than others in hitting their mark when drilling, but they still measure the same way.

I think the failure to be accurate in hitting the lines is a fault many pro shops have. That is not a problem at Buddies!!

Glad to hear that about Buddies as I have given thought a few times of having them drill a ball for me, but didn't know if they excelled at hitting the lines or not.

Give me a break.  Hitting the lines is the easiest part of drilling a ball.  What Buddies can not do is see if your grip is correct.  Yes, anyone can drill a ball based on specs on a sheet but how is he determining that your specs are correct.  Sorry, online shops can not do that.

If your local shop can not hit the lines, then they will be out of business very soon.  Find a good local shop in your area, have your grip checked and give them your business.  Only they can see you bowl and see the lane conditions you might be bowling on.

Chris personally checked mine while I was there and watched me bowl, I drove to Connecticut to see the best. Granted its not an option for everyone, but to say Buddies is any old online dealer is not true.

I agree and even if you deal with Buddies 100% online they go above and beyond to help you. I recently had Chris drill a ball for me and he had me send him a video of me bowling so he could figure out my PAP. He also gave me a few pointers on my game at the same time. Ball fit great too. I shipped a ball to take measurements from rather than sending in a spec sheet.

I do agree with supporting your local pro shop as well, but buddies is a good option especially since they carry brands and harder to find balls that your pro shop may not offer.

Preface to say it's been a while since Chris has drilled a ball for me (I have my own shop now), but when he was drilling for me it was 110% experience.  I happen to live within driving distance from him so I was able to get measured by him.  After that it was as simple as adding a piece of tape and throwing the balls.  Keep in mind that he also is a brick shop in a large center and was really a pioneer in the online pro shop business.

Stan,

I agree figuring out if your specs are correct is the most important thing. That I had done at a reputable pro shop in my area. The thing they cannot offer is the Ultimate Thumb mold process I use at Buddies. Switch grips are fine but if the locking system wears out from use, you are back to square one on getting the right feel in a thumb hole, if you are like me and need the hole to feel just right.

You are totally wrong if you think that hitting the lines is that easy for pro shops. I have been to many and depending on how busy they are, being exact does not always happen. So, I'm not going to give you a break!!!
