Might be non-standard pin placement, very high top weight, misaligned mass bias, blemish in the coverstock, or even a ball that was repaired at the factory due to some cosmetic issue and cannot be sold as first quality.

A ball will not be sold as an x-out because of the box it is in.  It is the ball itself that dictates whether it is sold as an x-out.

X-outs are usually fine as long as you have a pro shop operator that knows how to deal with them.  Sometimes you have to get creative with layouts to get them set up for your game.  I have had a few over the past couple of decades and never had a problem with them.

Never, ever, under any circumstances buy a ball with a wripped box. They always roll funny.

I've never seen an x-out plastic ball.

I've never seen an x-out plastic ball.

But have you stepped up to the 10 pound heavy weight ball yet?

Those will sometimes deform the mold with all that weight...

No, still using my Messenger TI Lightweight. Only every now and then, because I don't want to alert the government that I have a NUKE in my bag! *Boom"

When I used to run a shop I would buy up all the x-out plastics from distributors to make better margin on our "Starter Packages". I think we were selling them for $109.99 with bag & shoes. All of the the plastic x-outs/blems I've ever seen were odd mid-weights. 10lb 11oz, 9lb 10 oz, 13lb 12oz, etc..... Nothing wrong with performance.
