Experts on drilling Morich balls? (Onslaught in particular)
« on: September 13, 2003, 08:15:27 PM »
A friend asked me about getting the Onslaught for our Friday scratch league. I thought it could work well for him, as he's half-stroker, half-tweener, with decent revs and speed. So I suggested a sharp breakpoint drilling (stacked leverage). We used the Morich suggestions from its website. We left the cover as is, which is very polished.

Well, it acted as though it were a control ball, with a nice mild arc, on what is a medium to medium heavy oil pattern. No flip or even hard arc at the backend, unless he really hit harder than he normally does.

When he was anywhere close to the pocket, it hit like a typical Morich ball, very hard, with a loud noise and lot sof pin movement. But John wanted a stronger move in the backend, a hard turn, if not a flip.

Suggestions??
I mean, besides polishing it up or redrilling it.

If you go for the redrilling, call MoRich at 1-877-530-0324 and request their free CD.  I think it's called axis track.  It will show the core at all positions on the lane for the different drillings.  Their email tech support (http://morichballcompany@msn.com) is also very helpful.  I have seen the Hercules and Colossus series in action, but not the Onslaught.

By the way, MoRich is PBA (regional and senior only?) registered again.

Thanks, strider. I already emailed Morich the full grisly episode in excruciating detail. Just wonder if any of our drilling experts had an idea in the meantime.

FWIW I gather the Onslaught would have more length and a resin pearl-like backed (I had hoped like the Inferno, but with the ability to handle medium-heavy oil). I think the Hercules is a lot stronger and earlier roll, than the Onslaught.

FWIW I just got an email back from Morich and they suggested that my friend did not have enough revs on medium-heavy oil to get this ball to react the way he wanted. They also suggested more thumb and/or less side weight or sanding it to 800 grit to provide more reaction. Not sure which way we will go on this; I have to talk to him about it.
