Title: 08 09 PBA
Post by: tenpin477 on July 27, 2008, 02:29:14 PM
"The format list was sent to all exempts. Yes, there is a house shot tourney. Yes, there is a plastic ball tourney on cheetah. Both have a TQR. Yes, there are combo pattern tourneys. There are other formats coming, too." - Lundquist

Sounds interesting. Some of those formats are great ideas.

How many guys will throw their sponsors logo plastic ball during the plastic ball tournament?

Robert Smith with plastic on cheetah, I will bet he is still 220 plus a game average. That will play into his and TJ's wheelhouse, high rev players should have some carry help with all plastic.

Be interesting to see the Plastic ball on cheetah tourney.
Wonder how many free agents would throw a Lane 1 XXXL or a Stardust XXXL

I will also bet on a limited edition real core plastic ball coming out within a few weeks of that tournament.

I'd like to see the all plastic ball tournament on the cheetah pattern.  I wonder if they'll put restrictions on the ball surface on the plastic ball - like allowing the user to change the grit on the surface.

PBA is providing the plastic balls...maybe all PBA Vis A Balls, but it'll be the same for everyone.  Everyone entered will get two to use for the tourney...

Yep. TV will be like watching the circus, or the WWE..

What a joke....they are going to use 2008 oil on 1975 bowling balls.

It would be like asking current PGA pros to play 7500+ yard courses with Persimmon drivers....noone would care or watch.

Yep, this is true.  I've verified it with 3 different exempt pro's.  They all say the same thing.  House shot, plastic and another tourney is the men bowl a doubles tournament with women pros and a tournament where one pattern is on one lane another pattern on the other lane.

Also for those who don't know, the pba has modified the chettah pattern.  I don't know if they are going to use it or not for this upcoming season, but the gutter will not hook at all.  We bowled a regional in gastonia a few weeks ago and if you got it outside 5, you got 3 off the right everytime.  Its much, much tougher than it used to be.  They said it was the same version used at the tour trials, so it wasn't a lane machine malfunction, thats the shot.

i think the one on a house shot will be the most interesting to watch.... but the week after that will also be interesting from going to one week to have that wall out there and then the next week have to play a tougher line.

Im so glad people are brainwashed to think that TRACK sucks. And its even funnier when im carrying with my TRACK ball and they're going flat ten with their BRUNSWICK ball.

there are some interesting and also disturbing formats coming up this year. I really wonder what some of the exempt players feel about them.. I know some of the new guys don't care about the format, they are just ready to go out and get going.

I'm interested in the feelings on the march madness type format coming up and how the players feel about that one

PBA is also in the process of making its 6th pattern called "Earl" in honor of Earl Anthony.

Jan. 11: PBA National Bowling Stadium Championship.

Lane oil pattern: Mixed (Cheetah and Shark).
Round One of qualifying will feature the Shark Pattern, while Round Two of qualifying will feature Cheetah. For match play and on TV, the left lane on the pair will be oiled with the Shark pattern the right lane, Cheetah.

Expect averages to drop big time once match play starts. I can't wait too see how ugly the scores will be on tv. This is the format I've been dreaming about. You do this in league averages for most bowlers would drop at least 20 pins. This tournament should be interesting to say the least!

The Dual Lane Format has been used here in Europe for a couple years in Holland....

You can see they averaged quite well.  I would expect the PBA guys to tear it up as well...
