This week's a joke . .
« on: February 14, 2008, 02:53:49 AM »
It's close to home, so I thought about bowling the TQR this week.  Really glad I didn't.  Not knocking the talent of anybody out there, I know how good those guys are . . but geez, averaging 250 on something that's supposed to be challenging?  These are house shot numbers this week, it's a carry contest.  When a bad break like a stone 8 or a 9 could have a huge impact, there's something wrong.  Not surprised to see Chris Barnes up there again, the more oil he sees the better.  Just starting to become disenchanted with the PBA all over again.

i was at the first round of qualifying yesterday morning not really knowing what to expect from a scoring standpoint. i saw the big scores from the tqr on wednesday but that usually changes once the tournament actually begins on thursday. wrong. chris barnes shoots 289 right out of the gate....he was over 800 for his first three games. walter ray williams, jr., shot over 800 in his first three games including a 300 game throwing the ball straight down the 3 board. judging by the scores you would have assumed they were on the cheetah pattern. judging by the lines most of these guys were playing you also would have assumed they were on the cheetah pattern. no, they were on the scorpion pattern.....41' of oil and the outsides are usually unplayable. hhmmmmmm......have the patterns been tweaked that much ?

Can we just say that the exempt pros are better as a given?  Sometimes an argument is manufactured this way:

Person A: "Hey, I am wondering why the scoring pace seems higher at times this year."  "Any input?"  "Why does the Shark look better near the gutter now?"

Person B: "STFU, you suck so bad and you couldn't hold a pro's jock you stupid P.O.S. noob hack human trash."  "If you are so awesome why aren't you out there doing it?"

Person A: "Who said I was awesome?"

What?  Is that like the stock comeback to any post now?

Exaggerating - No.  Some of the local tournaments I have bowled in have several PBA winners (including majors).  Can these guys be beaten - YES, Are they better than me - YES.  Erie, Pa has about 4 current and former PBA champs and I have done well against them in their home houses.  Telling someone to 'shoe up or shut up' is asinine.

Incidentally NicholasE - it is 'sports Authority' calling people out.  If he has 'been there/done that' he sounds a little bitter.

Well...because we're *clowns,* of course.

Seriously...I want no part of *any* of the exempt pros on *any* lane condition.  Not only would they clean my clock, they'd sand, prime, and refinish it as well.

Well gee . . where do I start?  Can we keep the pace around 225 to 230 instead of 240 to 250?  Like I said, the whole point of that is so that bad breaks don't determine results.  I'd rather bowl on a shot where YOUR SHOTS make you or break you, not carry.  And even if you had a bad break here and there, it wouldn't put you so far down.  I'm not saying lower pace to feel closer to them.  If they average 250 and a house bowler averages 220, or the pro averages 220 and the house guy averages 190, it's all going to even out.  The pros don't like scores that high either.  Reasons I didn't bowl?  Didn't have the money and don't have a tour card, plus I'd like a chance to practice more often on tougher shots, which doesn't happen very often.  When our pba league kicks off this summer, and when the regional tours start, I'm going to bowl regionals, and if I can swing it, I'm going to tour trials.  Like I said, I'm not knocking talent, but even the best in the world still don't put those kinds of numbers up on the shark.  I think the tougher the shot is, the more parity you're going to see between pro and joe.  The more room you have, the better the donks are going to do, but with scoring, there's only so high you can go before eventually a ring ten or a 9 or something gets in your way.  I'd love to see a lot lower scoring pace, then you'd see guys like Walter and Norm and Pete back in the limelight a lot more, because they're better than most of the other guys out there.  Some of those other guys just throw pins around, and if you have speed and a rev rate and get 3 boards to play with, don't you think that kinda overcomes accuracy?
