What happened to Robert Smith????!!!!
« on: March 27, 2006, 03:44:39 AM »
I just saw the final standings for the World Championships and freaked out when I saw Robert Smith holding up the entire field.  He is a very accomplished bowler is a very approachable guy.  Did he get hurt or something?

Was trying to get up into the 700rpm range as rumored on this website.

May have pulled somethin!

He has had back problems in the past.

I believe they said he withdrew because of them.

Hamstring problems. May not bowl this week either. He was trying to decide if he had enough points to make it to the Japan Cup so he could rest this week before the TOC

Great bowling this past weekend Jeff.  It would have been awesome seeing you on TV, as watching you in Buffalo was an absolute blast.  I love your game, and am confident that you will have an exemption for next season.  Best wishes for the rest of the PBA season, regional season, and tour trials if you are forced to attend.

Lefty it seems like you are jealous of Smith's rev rate.  Is it hard for you to believe that he can rev it up?  Calulate what the PBA and other articles have said.  He has shown thorwing a ball with 27 revolutions.  How many rpm is that at his fast ball speed.

I've crossed with Robert at quite a few stops before the exempt field and at a couple majors, he tones it down a lot and really only bangs on it if needed and that's rare for him lately. He still can rev it up more then anyone else out there but if he doesn't need to then why should he. I bowled one stop crossing with him and Tommy Jones and TJ was reving it more then Robert was easily but yet Robert was +150 over TJ.

Rev's are over rated unless you really need them and they are the only game you have. Back 10-15 years ago I was getting 450 on average and could get up to 480 if I wanted and still remain accurate but it didn't do anything more for me except on certain conditions, now I'm down in the low to mid 300's and my wrist thanks me for it.
