Question about regionals vs. national events...
« on: March 28, 2009, 05:11:01 PM »
Am I reading it correctly that the 200 average requirement applies to both the national and regional tours?

And I'm just talking about entering as an am here...thinking about entering a regional if I can find one on Viper (I average higher on Viper than I do THS) but my base average is 195 so I'm not sure that I can.

Your average does not matter for regionals or national events.  The only time it matters is if you are going to join then you have to average 210 for 2 years.

the site says 200 they may have also changed it from 2 years to 1.. because it doesn't say 2 anymore..

I'm not looking to actually JOIN, just bowl one regional as an amateur guest. I'd be stupid to join as I'm not anywhere good enough.

I'm good enough that, at least on one of their five named patterns, I'm good enough to be competent and justify spending that kind of money for a one-time experience.

Trust me, they don't usually turn away entries.  You should be fine either way.

Trust me when I say this, usually when you bowl a regional especially when the exempt pros arent there, there are only going to be 15-20 guys that legitimately have a chance to win the thing.  The rest are usually local bowlers looking to have fun and gain experience and other pba members that have no clue and shouldn't be out there.

National events, every one that gets through the tqr can win it

Amatuers are competing for the same prize money as the PBA members.

Am's pay more to enter the tournament and they are limited to 2 cashes per year. If they want to bowl more then they have to join.

Average doesn't matter if you're an amateur, pay your entry fee and you'll get in. I don't even know if you even have to be a sanctioned bowler to enter.

From the PBA Rule Book:

quote:
13.2 Amateur Entries. Amateurs may be permitted to bowl in selected PBA
Regional Tour, PBA Senior Regional Tour, PBA Senior Tour and limited PBA Tour
tournaments on the following conditions:
13.2.1 Proof of Average. When requested, an amateur must provide proof in the
form of a letter from a league secretary or tournament director, a current league sheet, or a copy of an average book.
13.2.2 Minimum Average Requirement. Competing amateurs must have a two
hundred (200) average or a one hundred and ninety (190) average in an USBC Certified Sport League for twenty-one (21) games within the last calendar year.
