I assume you mean the English Open? Didn't realise it was being broadcast over the pond (if that is what you meant)

Don't know how this changed to golf but that isn't the British Open, it's simply "The" Open

I believe riggs was just merely pointing out that The Open, or The British Open as most commonly called in the U.S., is only on ESPN this year with no coverage on network / free tv here in the U.S.  One of the 4 majors in golf it seems is taking a step down in coverage here, and bowling seems to get a small step up.

My point is that there is little difference between ESPN and ABC ... it once was being on network TV was a much bigger deal vs. being on ESPN whereas now something as prestigious as one of golf's four majors will be only on ESPN.

ABC, ESPN.  They are the same company.

The difference is, basic cable subscribers will be able to watch the show on ABC, but not ESPN. People forget that there are still those out there that do not have 150 channels of everything and anything to watch, so the show being on ABC will reach MANY more people.

I don't think I've seen a basic cable or satellite set-up that doesn't have ESPN either ?????

About the only way you don't get ESPN anymore is if you are using good ol fashioned rabbit ears. With a digital converter box now of course

Sorry, I was thinking of basic as just your standard line-up of 50 or so channels with none of the bells and whistles. Essentially, what is posted above plus 20-30 of the major cable networks.

I've covered this area for years for our paper(s) here and last I checked, it was less than 10 of people that got the truly "basic" cable (from Charter here) lineup package posted above.
