PBA AND USBC ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP MOVING LIVESTREAMING TO BOWLTV FOR 2023
Aaron Smith
December 01, 2022

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Professional Bowlers Association and United States Bowling Congress have agreed on a partnership to offer exclusive livestreaming coverage of the 2023 Guaranteed Rate PBA Tour season on BowlTV.

The agreement will include comprehensive coverage of the PBA National Tour, as well as PBA50, PBA Jr. and PBA Regional Tour events. BowlTV’s season coverage will feature all PBA Tour qualifying rounds and championship rounds for five PBA Classic series tournaments. The coverage also will include the entirety of the Roth/Holman PBA Doubles Championship and all PBA50 Tour events.

This agreement brings the PBA Tour, Professional Women’s Bowling Association Tour and USBC short-duration tournaments to the same BowlTV livestreaming platform, providing subscribers unprecedented access to top-level bowling with one subscription.

“We are pleased to have all professional bowling come together under the same platform for 2023,” PBA Tour Commissioner Tom Clark said. “BowlTV’s coverage will be tremendous for bowling fans.”

PBA coverage on BowlTV will include multiple channels at each event, so fans can follow their favorite PBA competitors. The broadcasts also will include professional commentary, interviews and analysis featuring top bowling experts.

“We appreciate the PBA partnering with the USBC to create this incredible content offering for bowling,” USBC President Melissa McDaniel said. “This partnership is a big win for all of bowling, including the fans, athletes and USBC members. USBC is committed to making the BowlTV experience outstanding for its subscribers and the PBA.”

BowlTV offers the ability to purchase event tickets, as well as monthly and annual subscriptions. A full 2023 event schedule and updated pricing will be announced later this month.

Go to BOWL.com/BowlTV to learn more about BowlTV. Visit PBA.com for information on the PBA Tour.

So this puts all PBA and PWBA coverage on BowlTV. But it makes you wonder what happened to their other offering: XtraFrame, or whatever it was that came after it. But for them coming to this agreement, it makes you wonder how much their grandstanding was about the PBA Certification Program was more smoke being blown.

The PBA League Bowler Certification is just pointless Bowlero marketing.  It hasn't really proven to be much of anything.  I bowl in a Bowlero house, and our league is both USBC and PBA League certified.  Not one mention of the PBA thing has been made in any of the leagues.

I'm not sure. I think this may just be for the qualifying/match play rounds, and not the finals. I don't know how long the deal is that the PBA has with Fox for the shows. If that ended then this would cover all of it, which is a HUGE reversal by the PBA.

I've never watched bowlTV or XtraFrame.  Do/will they offer the same lane graphics that PBA on Fox has?

Certain events will still be on Fox and FS1.  The full schedule is here:

That may be a Fox-only or PBA-only thing. As BowlTV handles collegiates, the PWBA, the Women's US Open, and the Team USA trials, none of that is affiliated with what the PBA does or has. The PBA may bring that to BowlTV, but I doubt that, but it will be BowlTV's commentators that handle the streaming, so that I doubt to see until at least the TV taping.

Interesting. It looks like they are leaving it all to BowlTV except for the Majors, the WSOB, the Elias Cup, and a couple of other events. That makes it sound like they had to renegotiate a couple of things for the Fox deal, but also that Fox may not be putting as much emphasis on bowling anymore, similar to how it was phased out on Prime Sports Network in the 90s.

There really isn't much difference.  The majors, world series, Elias Cup, and a couple other random events were all that have been on Fox/FS1 the past few years.  The minor events were streamed on flobowling.  The PBA cut ties with flobowling and went to BowlTV as their new streaming partner.  It makes sense for fans who now only have to subscribe to one service instead of 2 to get their bowling fix.  Plus BowlTV coverage is way better than flobowling.

Still not going to subscribe until BowlTV is added to my Roku tv.  Not going to go through the hassle of hooking up my laptop to watch bowling on the bigger screen.  BowlTV also has a habit of putting events on YouTube several days after they stream live.  If they do that for the minor PBA events there is no sense in subscribing.

I'm watching the livestream on that very thing. Apparently according to Clark, there was live footage on Fox, during the Masters, of Clark and Murphy inking the deal. But It is good to know that things ended with Flowbowling amicably. Apparently COVID killed it after the the 2019 season.

But as far as being on Roku, they did mention that there is now a BowlTV app that can be downloaded. I do see it up on Apple's App store, so there may be something there for Roku.

I got in last year when it was $79.95. I renewed before it jumped to $99.95, so I'll be able to renew again next September at that price. The $99 price they are offering now until the end of the year would be good, especially since you're getting everything at that point. PBA, PBA50, PBA Jr., TNBA, UBA, PWBA, Collegiates, and TeamUSA, PABCON, including the World Cup. They're even offering the USA Bowling tournaments for youth.

The only things they don't offer that I see are the European tour, KPBA, and JPBA. That's it.

People can only pay for so many streaming services, for the amount of content I get for the cost…I’m keeping Netflix.

Checked the Roku app list on my Roku.  No BowlTV.

Looks like app is currently only iOS and Android.

If you have a smart TV, stream via the OPERA web browser.  It allows you to stream via your phone or tablet in true full screen mode. Plus, you can still use your phone or tablet normally to live chat.
