Just an idea...
« on: June 22, 2008, 08:40:30 AM »
What would you guys think about a tournament where they laid down the shark on the left lane... and the cheetah on the right lane. For the whole tournament.

Any thoughts and opinions on this???

I for one would find it very interesting to watch.

Something similar has already been done, for the last two years over here in Europe, and I believe that the annual World Ranking Masters contested by americans, europeans and asians does the same, for at least part of the event.

I don't think this would prove anything.  The point of the patterns is to make guys play different zones on the lanes and give different ball rolls a chance week to week.  Ryan Shafer has the perfect ball roll for the Shark, but can't crack an egg on the Cheetah.  I can't think of someone who bowls really well on the Cheetah but not on the Shark...maybe Walter Ray would be the closest.

I think it would take a lot of skill out of it and turn it more into a crapshoot.  It is difficult enough to keep up with transition on one of those patterns at that level when you only get 10 shots.  Now you're only getting 5 on each lane and it makes the chance of you going way under on a pair much more likely.

i think they should work with kegal and really come up with some true tuff shots i know the pba are top of the sport bowlers with harder shots then were use too but i think ( i know this'll make a few people pissed) the true sport legue shots that i've seen are whole lot harder.

You can lay whetever pattern you want to lay down out there and with the best in the world bowling, they will figure out how to break them down and open them up.

The US Open Flat pattern is supposed to be the toughest, and Norm Duke made it look like a THS.

The best in the world are supposed to average 210+ on everything.

I recommended this in sanctioned USBC leagues long time ago and was laughed at. Not PBA patterns but oiling all even lanes one way and the odd lanes another way. Of course it's impossible with the lane machines that are available. The only way to do it is to have an invented "double lane oiling machine" that literally can oil a pair at once. Left one is progamed differently then the right. If they did this in league, averages would drop from most all players an average of 20 pins depending on how good they are and how quick they pick it up in warmups. It would make warmups even that more important. Otherwise, everyone's worst game would be the first game perhaps because it would take so long to get lined up.

Imagine if they did that on the tour. Shark on the odd number/left lanes, Cheetah on the even number/right lanes. It would be more interesting. It makes more sense also that you bowl on a pair and not one lane so you HAVE to play the lanes differently.
