Some friends & I were discussing Belmo's less than stellar performance at the current WSOB in Reno.
About half subscribe to the theory that a lot of players are not intimidated by him anymore (especially the newer young players who are coming up on the tour) and the other half think his 2 handed style may be taking it's toll on his body.
I think it may be both. It's got to be something as he did not make match play in any of five events.
Cheetah 64
Viper 112
Chameleon 47
Scorpion 76
World Championship 40
Any thoughts?

I think it's the thumb rule, whatever usbc changed eith specs. No extra weight hole for 2 handers or whatever. Cuz when that went into effect, I saw his performance tank as well.
Also, I feel the manufacturers are lil bit more even in terms of "how" their equipment is. 2008-2013/14 storm/Utah clearly had a massive lead in terms of how good their product is. Now Brunswick and EBI are making some REALLY great pieces.
Also is motiv still as good as they a season ago? Idk maybe it's just Russell not on fire.
-
Another theory could possibly be the change of venue this year. The WSOB is not in Vegas, instead having been moved to Reno. The lane topography is different than what Belmo and the others have seen at South Point the last several years. That can also play into why he isn't in match play.
-
Those are very good points. I also noticed Ronnie Russell was really off his game.

Or the PBA decides to have their signature event at a place that your ball doesn't react as good as it does at the other place.
or you fly half way around the world and get an untimely sniffle.
or they decide you are no longer gonna be the poster boy for the PBA and they take the ramp away.
It's pretty tough to draw any conclusions when you only bowl for 4 days at the same venue.

Both really good points. EBI and Brunswick really stepped up their game and have some great balls that have been released recently. 900 Global also stepped it up and they're making a good showing so far at the WSOB. (Their Tour Preferred Series line of balls are designed with Chris Barnes).
Motiv hasn't really changed much in their line since last year, so I'm thinking it's more on Ronnie Russell for the slow start. The only newer balls since his dominating run last season are the Octane Burn and the soon to be released Jackal Carnage.

How do u check what place people finish in all the squads ??? PBA website too confusing for me I can only find single tournaments but not the whole series in one.

The whole series in 1 is the world championship

When I read posts like this, I wonder to myself if anyone actually follows pro bowling. As far as I know, Belmo still won 2 majors this year and made a few more shows in addition.
If the patterns transition where everyone is lofting the cap or he can throw hard, he will always be in contention.
Even in the most recent tournament, I believe he made the qualifiers round. So even when he bowls not so great he still cashed.

Because everyone goes through peaks and valleys of performance in bowling.
-

Does the PBA adopt the USBC rules now? they didn't used to; for example I seem to recall on the PBA that bowlers could sand specific track lines to a different grit, while the ABC/USBC rules were always that a ball had to be a uniform surface grit/finish

There isn't much more than this….

Poor week for him, but let's not forget that he probably still wins player of the year unless Ciminelli wins the World Championship. That leads me to believe he just had an off week.
-
He isn't left handed.
-
The Pba giveth, the Pba taketh away.Maybe they are tired of pimping him out

Belmo bout wsob

I disagree with the equipment argument as that would raise the field's average as opposed to negatively impact Belmonte.
The New lane surface + higher volume patterns meant that the patterns don't blow open down the lane to give Belmo some of that extra free hook/room down the lane that he had seen at Southpoint.
Belmonte's stylistic matchup (similarly to PDW and Malott who also really get the ball downlane with stronger downlane angles) simply wasn't as good as say Beef Stu, Rash, Bill or Dom who get the ball started up sooner to read the midlane and are able to play more parallel angles.
-
I remebered that some one wrote after the first WSOB that as long as they hold the event at South Point that the guys like Belmo,Sean and other high rev bowlers would have an advantage personally I don't know that what was written in the article.
-
Anyone on the right side who swung it, fared very poorly in Reno
Pete, Belmo, TJ, Ronnie Russel to name a few, didn't make a cut
-
Lol those lefties that made it on the most recent show...proved that the righties had to have it tough. The ying yang guy and the guy in the 900g shirt..butroff and bollebe or something. If those dudes made it and belmo and other great righties like rash, pdw, oniel, etc didn't make it. ...cmon. Mental math shows the left side was at a huge advantage. The ying yang guy still shot 200 plus each game and looked completely lost.
With it that easy, ciminelli and Faulkner are going to KILL IT. I would expect bohn to do the same as well..
-
Reno has played like that for years. Even with the lanes being changed a few times, the overall topography still favors the lefties. Now the Kingpin Club (where the shows took place) seems to favor the lefties also for the time being. Either way, it's still nice to see some different names.

Exactly it was nice seeing different pros make the telecast!

For as long as Belmo was dominant...it's hard to continue that domination. Eventually you slip and then you get up and knock on the door again
-
I don't see why anyone would even consider intimidation in bowling.. After all this is not boxing or football where anyone could hurt you. The worst thing that could happen is that you would lose a match.
