While I agree Simmons doesn't know a lot about bowling, it's nice to have a big sports personality that will actually go to a tournament and sit in the booth.  Jim Rome uses his show to personally attack bowling yet Simmons actually comes on trying to help the sport and you guys all bash him.  He even had Stone on his podcast on ESPN and they talked bowling for 15 minutes.

Ignorance causes as much if not more problems than intentional lyng.

Also, it was Stone's idea for Simmons not to do any homework on his podcast.  Simmons said there were two ways he could go, either study really hard for the broadcast or since he was the 3rd person in the booth, go in cold and ask randy questions that someone that isn't a serious bowler would be asking.  Stone told him it would be better to go in cold and ask questions so don't put all the blame on Simmons.  At least he did something for bowling which is a lot more than most others.

And it's taken Stone, what 5 years, to accumulate the least tidbit of bowling knowledge?

Damage done.

Okay, so you hated him. I tuned in just in time to see the last frame of the title match.

What was Michael Fagan throwing?

I am "assuming" it was the Mission however with the Ebonite site having the worst graphics around it is hard to tell from their ball graphic. Then too, Ebonite doesn''t seem to be a big seller in my area so I have never seen most of their stuff in person.

Thanks

I turned it off after DA Stone asked BS to make up a new term for a 5 bagger! Just what we need another non bowler making up something for knownothing to yell after they carry their 5 lucky noseshot in a row.

Mike J Laneside should be in the booth.

Nobody outside of this community knows who Mike J Laneside is.

I don't know why the comments continue to roll in, because it's already been mentioned twice in the thread -- the PBA did this because Bill Simmons has an audience somewhere else. They're trying to bring that audience to bowling. Simmons gets incredible amounts of traffic on ESPN.com and his other ventures and it's likely more than a few people tuned in today to hear him and couldn't care less about the bowling.

It would have made more sense to have Kenny Mayne, since he did the Detroit documentary.

A bunch of people got their panties in a twist last year over the Chris Paul tournament, and it looks like next week's telecast will be the same.

So I will be the first to say: Get over yourselves

This event is for Chris Paul's foundation, and raising money and awareness for that. So who cares if they go out and screw around. I find Ludacris to be a strange addition, but maybe Paul knows him.

But either way, the show won't be about execution of bowling so take it for what it is.

As for today's show, I like Simmon's ESPN material, but I think this was a failed experiment. It may have been ESPN's idea and the PBA did it for them or the PBA's motto of any kind of press is good press might have convinced them this was a good idea, but they never should have kept him on the entire show in the booth.

You know what I can't believe?  All the BR allstars putting him down.  What did you expect from a guy who probably knows little about our sport?  He was there for entertainemnt's sake and maybe draw some different fans in.  You BR "keyboard pounders" really crack me up.

I did not enjoy Bill Simmons and his attempt at commentating on a PBA telecast.  He reminded me of Tony Kornheiser on Monday Night Football.  Neither one added anything to the telecast.

At least he didn't remind anyone of Jim Rome.

If there's one thing I have learned on this site, is that there can truly be snobs for any endeavor and activity on earth...you guys remind me of  Paul Giamatti's wine snob character in "Sideways"

The tour telecasts are really becoming a pathitic joke the fans acting like a bunch of fags with the celebrity faces on a stick, ham bone signs, dicks like that Bill simmions asking why the guys were kissing their bowling ball...I watched 1 finals show this year because it is f'in gay anymore and that was this weekend what a bad week to pick only watched because PW made the show.
