If we want to see who's capable now...do away with the exempt title and allow everyone who has the green to play. Plus, those animal patterns need to go since the so called best are looking right of 10 on 4 patterns out of 5. PBA should of worked on some new patterns and not the gimmicks they dropped this year like using different patterns on different lanes. AY-CARUMBA!

The PBA did change the patterns for the upcoming year and added another pattern. So this year should be better, hopefully. I agree during last year all the patterns played by the gutter.

I think Monacelli had back issues that caused him to basically retire from the sport.  He still competes in the ToC

I know what you mean about "any old hack" playing BUT bowling is struggling! The other sports are leaving us in the dust. Obviously the sponsorship dollars are not overflowing so the only way to generate revenue is to let more people play. It does not have to be like the Open with a long qualifying format give folks (2) 6-game blocks and cut to whatever number.

If we're going to rap on the PBA for its exempt system, be prepared to curse golf because Jack Nicklaus isn't contending at Augusta or NASCAR because Richard Petty isn't still driving or baseball because Nolan Ryan is at home working on his dude ranch.

The only difference with bowling is that the exempt system is relatively new.  The PBA TOUR has had exemptions for years and you don't hear people bitcaing about that.  The Nationwide Tour serves much the same purpose as the regional tours in the PBA, but on a more flexible way.  Instead of simply taking the tops in each region (which I think they're doing away with anyway), winning on the Nationwide tour gets you a certain amount of exemption on the big tour.

This is not the first exempt system for the PBA tour, though.  There were previous exempt systems in the '80s and '90s, you just didn't hear about them every week like you do now and I believe the field was larger to boot.

I'd like to see more tournaments and more patterns, hell have a different oil pattern every week, and not tell anybody what it is. Let the bowlers figure out how to play it, rather then coming in and setting it up every week.

I think Mr. 300 either moved or is in process of moving to Texas to be closer to the USBC HQ.

Being my favorite bowler since I can remember, at the 2007 ToC myself and 3 friends of mine actually sat down and talked to him the morning after he failed to qualify for the tournament. He talked to us for over an hour about life on tour...etc. He really opened up to us and told us a lot, some things I was very suprised at. I don't want to disclose everything here but there were some major factors why he decided to move on from bowling. Remember, his home and children are in Venezuela and it was very tough for him to only be there a few days a month. He said the injuries he had weren't too serious and not bothering him at the time. Now that he wasn't exempt he planned on working with children bowlers in his country. He had some other projects he was working on as well. Even though he wasn't exempt he said he still wanted to compete in a few tournaments like the US Open. He was one of the nicest persons i have ever met and it was a pleasure speaking to him. We were appreciative of him taking the time to meet with us, not many other people would have done that.

One of my favorites. Patterned my game after his for years until injuries made me tone it down.

As mjschrems mentioned, I had never heard anything about Amletto's injuries being the reason that he stopped bowling so much.  I remember hearing that it was more personal issues than injuries.  I can imagine it being rough emotionally, and expensive to be so far from your family.  While it's a choice all bowlers must make, it's possible he just decided to choose family over bowling.

Haha, put Rhino on the right side and he would beat everybody over there too.  What about the righties that count on everybody else helping them burn in a shot to do well?  Righties have to put up with track burn, lefties have to put up with a lack of it.  If they start out without a look, they don't develop one for a while.  I'm ambidextrous, I bowl on both sides, and they both have their challenges.  On average, the left side is sharper but tighter.  In other words, I don't leave flat 7's much.  However, a shot on the right that would hold doesn't on the left side.  I miss two or three in on a house shot, I'm probably holding pocket on the right.  On the left, I'm looking at the 4-7 or possibly worse.  And don't forget that most of the guys on the right side play far enough left that they can burn Rhino's heads.  Rhino can play just as far right as most righties with hand can play left.  He's got the revs when he needs them.  It's too bad we only get to see what happens on the show.
