Title: Choke much Lonny.
Post by: nizzo on January 10, 2004, 10:42:35 PM
Wow what a weird 10th frame for Lonny, very bad break for him, but overall great show, nice bowling Walter Ray.

He should have used the raging inferno instead of the ebonite ball.

Very bad ball decision on his part. Yes he left 2 10 pins earlier in the game on the right lane with the raging inferno but at a 10 pin is sparable and thats all he needed to win the match..

The bottom line he made a bad shot..

If they only made a ball that would carry that d*mn 10 pin..

actually, I'm not surprised.....he chucked a few FAR right on the right lane, and he was pushing more oil wide.....when he stepped up in the 10th and they were saying that he's been struggling on the right lane, I said to myself, he better not toss another wide........but he did........that's gotta hurt.

On WRWs side......that was the perfect example of "you just never know !" Keep striking, because you never know what's going to happen !

Throw it straighter Lonnie when you need a mark to win.

That's why WRW had Lonnie finish on that lane.  He'd been flirting with disaster regularly.  When he kept his line tighter, the ball would finish strong and rip the rack.  When he sent it wide, it was rolling out and getting a hook/set look.

I think he was looking for more midlane and arc with the V2 to keep him out of trouble.  Good idea, bad execution.  He may have had a little too much ball speed because of some adrenaline.

Easy there big fella, no one on this thread (except for the title) shows any type of "I'm better than him" machismo whatsoever......it's just a discussion on his last shot..........

Walter Ray Williams Jr. = Class

My 2 cents:

I believe Lonny threw that washout with the Ebonite ball, when he had been using the Raging Inferno on that lane. Now, I don't know how balls he threw on that lane with the Ebonite ball (Stinger?), but I'd guess he was trying to play a safe shot and just pulled it into the oil too much. I think it was more of a bad guess on his part than a choke shot. He has been out there too long and has already bowled too many great games under pressure for anyone with any knowledge of the game or the PBA to say he choked.

Walter Ray shook his head more in disbelief, because he knew he had already lost; the odds of that happening again are too high to calculate. We all have won games that way, but how often? Not very.

charlest,

I thought he had thrown the V2 solid on the left lane, but then towards the end he was throwing it on the right as well instead of the Raging Inferno, but I can't remember when...........

I believe everyone considers it a choke because when you are at the pro level you are expected to preform like one.It just caught alot of people off gaurd. It would be something like a pro golfer missing a 2 foot put for the cheese.

People are creatures of habit,We have the habit of making mistakes. But if you don't learn from them it wont be long before you eliminate yourself from the gene pool.

I knew it was a black Ebonite; didn't know which one.
BUT the V2 is a very strong ball; I didn't think it would have left that washout, but then I wasn't there.

I assumed it was a V2 because Lonnie has used one on TV on several occasions.  A V2 would still be a step below a Raging Inferno wouldn't it?

It was the V2.  I agree with Tech and Jeff, no one is picking on him but as a pro and to make it to Walters level he has to be able to make those shots.  If you remember in the semi's when he had it won in the 10th frame he picked up his plastic and threw it right down the middle for a strike and shredded the rack. I'm sure he has replayed that decision a hundred time over since then. I think 99% including Walter felt for him but that is bowling.

Unless it was polished, maybe a half step below the Raging.

Look ScottyJ, if the sport of bowling is to survive, it needs fans.  NASCAR has fans, NFL football has fans, and bowling needs fans.  That's what we are, fans.

Ever hear the crap that goes on between a Jeff Gordon fan and a Dale Earnhardt, Jr. fan?  "Gordon sucks" is one of the nicer comments you'll hear.  No one tells the Earnhardt fan to get in his car and go head-to-head with Jeff Gordon, or shut up.

Why is every post that denigrates a PBA player met with "Shoe up or shut up", or "How many titles do you have"?

Norm Duke rocks, and Lonnie Waliczek sucks!

If only tour guys could say anything about other tour guys, well, you might as well shut down the pba.com forum.  Hmmmmm.... that wouldn't be such a bad idea...

Lonnie set the down a few boards deeper in the oil and it got to the break point later and that is why it never made it to the pocket.

i find it interesting that the "chris barnes is a choker" label gets brought up in a match between walter ray williams, jr., and lonnie waliczek------what ? even when chris barnes is not on a telecast he gets slammed( poor guy ).

Greg,

I agree 1000%.
Please, Oh Bowling God, please give me the chance to fail as many times as Chris Barnes has "failed"!!

Nothing more need be said!!
