Title: Congrats to Norm Duke
Post by: Bowlaholic on February 25, 2019, 10:28:35 AM
No this is not a spoiler alert.
FS1 has already broadcast this more than once since yesterday's first broadcast and the highlights/winner is already out on youtube.
So with that said, I want to not only say congrats to Norm, but thank him for one of the best championship final matches I have witnessed in many a year.
He truly without any doubt, is one of the greatest of all time!

I hadn't had the opportunity to watch yet, so thanks OP.

It would have been nice for you to post a title that wasn't a spoiler (maybe something that referenced spoilers inside) for those who didn't have a chance to watch yesterday.  But.....since it aired at least twice just go ahead toss aside considering that maybe some people need a day or two.

Good for you getting your thanks in to Norm though...and I suppose I don't need to watch, now having the results.

If I happen to see Norm, I will be sure to tell him you said so.

He might not get around to reading this forum today...  ::)

Sorry, but as mentioned the results (winner) has been broadcast (more than once by FS1), on youtube (today), Facebook, etc.
So if you have been avoiding any of these media outlets to keep from learning who won, then perhaps you should have avoided BR, too.
Again, sorry if I spoiled you viewing, but it's impossible to know when everyone is planning to watch.  Norm deserves recognition/congrats now, not later when everybody finally says we all have now watched the show.

Why the hell do you people insist on posting these things?

VERY inconsiderate.

I go to work early in the evening, so have to sleep through the show. Recorded it for later, and watched it first thing this morning when I got home. Luckily, I JUST got through watching it.

Wonder how many others who actually got it ruined for them.

Milo, thanks for your offer, but chances are I will probably run into Norm before you do.  He lives just down the road from me and I will probably be seeing him at the bowling center in Clermont.
But, thanks again for the offer.

So with that said

^^^^ OP KNEW he was being inconsiderate, but still chose to (and I'm sure feels fine about it)

Super nice guy, class act, and legendary bowler for sure but Norm has had his fair share of well earned recognition over the many years.  Winning stuff is still exciting for him I am sure (especially whooping up on the young(er) bucks) but nobody needs to tell him to act like he has done it before or could to be honest.  I think even Norm wouldn't mind waiting a day or two to thank him over the internet.

(edit:  yes got the sarcasm by the way and OP deserves it).

So you could have just told him in person?

Ironic...

Look nobody is trying to be inconsiderate or trying to ruin anybody's day, but we live in a age of instant information.  I'm sure many people did not watch the recent Superbowl (for various reasons), but everyone knew who won the night of or the next morning. Instant information/social media. Did everyone who didn't know, complain to all the news outlets, newspapers, social media outlets, thousands of people talking about it the next day.  Hardly!
Yesterday's broadcast is not the Superbowl, but regardless the results were out there so why all the fuss.  Just watch it when you can and enjoy it.  I have done so many times knowing the end result ahead of time.  It did not lessen my enjoyment, nor did I want to jump all over someone for spoiling my fun.  Some people look for reasons and I guess I fed them accordingly.
My only objective was to provide a public congrats to Norm hoping all of you would do the same.  I failed and for that I am sorry.

Just contain your excitement next time and give everyone like 48 hours (and if you insist it be inside that window post "spoiler alert" in the title).

So, that gives you a license to be an inconsiderate person?

Probably would have if he’d known some inconsiderate person was going to thumb their nose at normal protocol, and KNOWINGLY post a spoiler with no warning.

EXACTLY why you put the title as congratulations (SPOILER) instead of just posting up the winners name in the title.

You’re in the wrong, and you know you are, because you’re using what little logic you can muster to try and justify what you did.

 You can’t. Don’t try.

 Bad form dude.

You assume everyone here is a fan of the NFL; piss poor assumption. A lot of people could care less about the NFL for various reasons: Personally, I think it's a boring sport, full of too much start/stop/plan crap with overweight guys trying to push others around in padding. Comparing that to Australian Rules football, where you have no padding, and could basically jump on top of someone's back to catch the ball, the NFL looks like total crap. So no, a lot of people wouldn't know who did what in the Super Bowl, because they don't care about the Super Bowl, nor the NFL altogether.

But my point about assumption here is made below.

The issue here is that since you saw it and that the show and results are somewhere on teh internetz, you assume everyone must already know about it. That is where you fail here, because as you've already seen, not everyone has. I'll be honest: I haven't watched a PBA show or even a clip of a PBA show since Francois Lavoie's 300 at the US Open in Vegas. To be brutally honest, the PBA bores me now. Collegiates, the PWBA, World Bowling, and the international events are more exciting than the PBA. I wouldn't have even known the finalists yesterday, let alone how the matches went down, so it would be idiotic to assume that since it is already online that everyone must already know how it finished.

The criticism here is spot on, and should be heeded the next time you think that everyone would already know what's happening at a tournament.

BL.

Congrats to Norm, He bowled great on the show.

To those who are complaining about spoilers.

While the OP could have added a spoiler notice to the subject, If you don't want to know the results why would you go to a bowling website and then go to the PBA folder? There is a high likely hood a spoiler could exist.

You don’t have to go to the PBA folder.

The winners name shows up on the front page, in the title of the post.

Log in, and BAM, instantly shows in title of post.

Besides, it has LONG been common practice here to post SPOILER ALERT in your title instead of the winners name in the subject line (title) of your post.

Most sensible, practical, responsible, thoughtful users here know that.

 Others don’t care, I suppose.

Oh yeah, congratulations Mr. Duke. You’ve come a long way since Mt. Pleasant.

What a match, just goes to show that if you want to put the time in and work hard you can still win on the tour. The last two weeks have been just great shows and both winners were playing the lanes where they were not supposed to be able to play. It was great seeing an older man beat a young buck that had so much powere. All I have to say is great job Norm you made my day.

Norm, PDW and WRW (Bohn, Aulby, etc) make that generation the greatest ever imo.   The young bucks have a whole lot of work to do to catch up.  Gratz to Norm making it that much harder.
