Why are you not bowling the Masters?
« on: February 06, 2009, 12:42:12 AM »
I looked at last years prize list and saw that 17th place paid $1800.  To beat out 450 bowlers for that kind of return is insane.  I added my expenses up and thought against it.  Flight ($350) Hotel ($300) Entry fee ($400) after any other expense I would need to make the round of 16 to make any money.  Just not worth it.  Any others?

Smart and not going to just throw money away.  Too many spend money on that event with zero chance.  I've seen too many exempt guys bowl well and get no return.  How is that a lack of talent?  Even they say how bad the payout is.

luckily, I'm bowling the Masters along with taking my vacation as well so the expense isn't as harsh as if I was just bowling only. Plus I'm bowling a couple of the sweepers and Woody D's tournament as well.

Lack of preparation and most importantly, work.

I was speaking for myself on the LOFT.

But if you are currently exempt and want to continue to tour how can you not go?

A chance at a multiple year exemption, a big pay day, the extra points a major gives out, plus you are bowling against a field that half have no chance of cashing. Almost all the exempt will get a check.

If you are exempt and not going then it seems like you have decided you don't want to be out there.

I'm not going because I'm a terrible bowler. Other than that, I'd be all over it.

Because I know a 212 average on a house shot is NOT going to cut it on a real pattern.

You'd be surprised at how many people think the opposite.

Plus you are going to be in rehab with that drinking game of yours. I think Necro does it just to keep you drunk.

I'd love to, but I don't have the money to pay for the expenses right now. Hopefully in the future!

The reason I am not bowling the Masters is simple:  The Prize Fund!

Entry Fee plus expenses would take a top 16 finish just to make $100.  It just doesn't seem worth it knowing many Exempt Bowlers don't even cash in this event and I know their talent is far greater than mine.

It's a crap shoot with 450-500 bowlers and luck of the draw with a drop pin fall format after 15 games of qualifying in the round of 64 and 32.

Even finishing top 10 doesn't seem worth it however it is in Las Vegas this year and if you wanted to vacation out there and tie a bowling trip into your vacation then it isn't such a bad idea.  But most people wait for the summer time to take a vacation verses February.

To sum it up, if you are strictly going to Las Vegas to bowl the Masters it is a bad investment period!

I'd love too, but being a single parent pretty much tells me that would be a lost cause, especially with an 11 year old daughter
