Chris Barnes' Bet with Mika
« on: October 26, 2008, 09:25:47 AM »
Right before the first commercial break in the second semi-final match between Steve Jaros and Chris Barnes, Rob Stone mentioned a new bet between Chris Barnes and Mika and he would talk more about it after the break.  Well, either I didn't catch it or "Stoner" never mentioned it.  What is the new bet between Barnes and Mika?  Thanks.

I love the sound of falling pins anytime of the day.

I live in Buffalo, NY and contrary to popular belief, it is not snowing.

I wish I had Chuck Norris with me last night.  He would have made sure that 9 pin went down for my first 300 game.

I didn't need Chuck Norris last night when I finally shot my first 800 series.

His results prove otherwise---he throws 4 out of 5 from inside to finish his first game. Then finishes with 3 out of 4 or 4 out of 5 from inside in the finals.

His decision to move right was pretty clearly wrong.

How many times have we seen PDW get beat playing his best? How many times have we seen Norm get beat making that move? Thats why those 2 have my respect moreso than Barnes.

Barnes physical game has no match (I think he is a freak of nature because of everything he can do). I love his game. His decision making on TV leaves alot to be desired. People on here want to defend him to the end---when turning a blind eye to the fact that his ball reaction was obviously worse---and it never seems to be CB making that big move to win. (Yes, I know---he had the win last year where he piped it on 1 lane and hooked it on the other---thats the exception for him).

Duke also proved on his fill ball (as he often does against Shafer)---you could do it from in there too.

It's real easy to sit there and second guess his moves after the fact, but you weren't there and you don't know what the lanes were doing. His look from in was not good enough to beat Norm, Chris knew it and had a very limited amount of time to try and find something better. Sure he probably looked back on that after and say it was the wrong move but hey, hindsight's 20/20.

I agree with you Russell, it's pretty amazing to see how many nobodies think they know better then the best in the world.

To all you that are (bad work here) on Barnes, make a TV show first.  Better yet, win 10 PBA titles, and be on the show numerous times in a season.

And just for an example, WRW Jr. had quite a few more 2nds for MOST of his career.  Was he ever "choking."

Barnes is probably the best and most consistent player out there right now, its just in that FINAL match he has some issues, but the guy obviously doesn't suck if he keeps getting there.

Did you see the ball go through the pins?

It looked terrible....he wasn't carrying well from there.  The fact that he shot 200 was nothing short of a miracle.  He knew he had to shoot 250 to beat Duke...and he wasn't going to do that from where he was.

The armchair quarterbacking on this site is getting really old.  You have a bunch of house hacks telling the pros how to play the lanes and how to be "clutch".

Wow, about the most intelligent post on this board in a long time.

Guys that average 170 on real shots saying the guys that are making hundreds of thousands of doallars a year bowling are chokers, or have no idea what they are doing.

It would be like guys at a slow pitch softball league saying Albert Pujols is terrible, or changing his swing was wrong or sucks.

I agree with Russell as well, watching the match Chris clearly did not feel comfortable with the look he had and felt he neeeded to try something different.  It didn't work he got beat by Norm doing what Norm does best, Barnes will win and he is clearly more talented than most of the bowlers out there today, note he made the finals.  This is no different than some hacker second guessing Phil Mickelson and his gameplan on any given Sunday in any golf tournament, you don't have the talent to get there but you think that you have much more knowledge from sitting on the couch watching the telecast than they have that actually made it to the finals.

I like the PBA bowlers also, but that doesn't mean they are infallible nor that a "house hack" (as some of you call them) can't recognize when the pros throw a bad shot or play the wrong line. Some "house hacks" have been bowling for 30-40 years and know a heckuva lot about shotmaking, transitions, equipment, etc. Just because somebody isn't out on tour doesn't mean that they don't know what they're talking about every once in a while. Shoot, even Randy Pedersen questioned Barnes' move, and I hardly think any of you would trash his point of view.
What does Barnes think? If he comes out and says that he made a boneheaded decision by changing lines, then you'll have to accept that he did and that the "house hacks" were right. If he comes out and says that the inside line disappeared between games and the outside opened up, then I think anybody will accept that as valid. Point is that nobody knows why he made the change except for Barnes and/or anyone he might have spoken to about his adjustment.
